Thanks for the link Disarm. CB from me. After seeing the set and hearing that Cillian and his performance have no problem filling the set I am even more sad that I am not going to see this! I know I keep crying about not seeing it. SORRY!! Oh here is a link from the same page in case anyone missed it about the sound design and composer. Once again though no Cillian! www.gaftv.ie/mdisp/339

From an internet cafe, where mah money, she is being sucked away, so briefly:
Guys, this thing is SUPERB. I know I'm the one who can usually find a nit in anything, but this is INCREDIBLE. It's every reason we ever had to love the little guy-- more details later (but can we say "macho," "seductive," "Oirish!", "tragic," "manic," "shirtless" (and "pantsless")? Why, yes, we can!)-- all rolled up in one big rambunctious package.
Ikklehen: re: seating. If you have your tickets in hand, arrive an hour early. That should lock you in at the front of the seating queue. Don't get mixed up with the people waiting to pick up tickets, or the folks hoping for no-shows. I've been in the front row for my first two shows at least (the third one's in three hours); I'd suggest sitting about five chairs left of center, facing the stage.
Met Enda Walsh last night. He's a sweetheart!
Later, yeah...?

His most manly performance, and I will never witness it. Ah well... I can hope he will save some o' that piss and vinegar for a later role in film so I can soak it up... Can't wait to hear about it!

Thank you for the details, Punctuator! Can't wait to hear more. You're such a lucky duck! It's really killing me that I couldn't see this, because it sounds amazing, I couldn't imagine what it must be like to be there in person.

Thanks for the link to this article, Disarm. (gave you a CB) It all sounds so damn exciting !!! My heart really aches that I can't watch this play.... It sounds like this is a masterpiece... And I will never see it... I really really hope so damn hard that they are somehow recording that play on video or doing another performance after this festival. Damn lacking of money and time !! Can't describe how sad I am about that...

Just got in, so I'm very tired (DELTA. SUCKS. Come back, Northwest. Please come back. All is forgiven....), but I just wanted to say that last night was especially... just wow. That one left me in tears. Could get all cynical and make a crack about blaming Dawn Upshaw, but no: about halfway in, man, I really started to melt. Knew the script by then, let myself just fall into it, and Cillian's speaking the words all of ten feet away, right at floor level....
After the show was very special as well. I am grateful beyond words to Anne Clarke, to Frances from the festival box office, and to Tina, the director of operations at the Black Box. And, yes, I'm grateful to Cillian, too.
Stunned here....

Heck, no, I'm not from London. (Given today's heat index-- 115 degrees F, anyone? No? Aww, come on...!-- I wish I was from London. ;D) I live in a tiny oil-refinery town on the Mississippi River, about ten miles south of St. Paul, Minnesota. Losing Northwest was sad enough at the time. Now that Delta has had a chance to settle in (not that they have, of course: they just moved a butt-ton of jobs from MSP to Atlanta), things have gone from "bad" to "borderline idiotic." (Yesterday, on my flight from Shannon to JFK, our pilot compared our ground-parking crew to the Keystone Kops.) More rambling on the play: It has everything, and Cillian plays it all brilliantly. Slapstick humor, action, visceral violence, tenderness, yearning. Madness and rage. A great and awful loneliness. A range of accents (and genders), all of which he carries off seamlessly in dialogues with himself. (And the sound design is perfect. Absolutely spot-on.) This is the best, most beautiful thing he's ever done. If getting there weren't such a marathon from this end, I'd be almost tempted to take you up on that spare ticket, ikklehen. (If you still have it, of course!) You'll have no trouble finding a taker for it in Galway, I assure you.... *** Edited to add: ***Re: ticket pick-up. They were having computer-slant-printer troubles at the Black Box on Saturday, so they had tickets that had been ordered via the Town Hall ticketing site delivered via taxi. (I had momentary horrors of having to trek to the Town Hall Theatre to pick up my ticket-- I blew out my sciatic nerve on the left side doing an extremely dumb weight-lifting move about three months ago, and walking these last few weeks becomes AGONIZING after about fifty yards-- but they had them brought over, and allowed us to snag sweet locations in the seating queue in the meantime.) So I guess I'd say... if you ordered your tickets via the official Arts Festival website, ikklehen, they should be right there waiting at the Black Box. I jumped the gun when I ordered mine: the tickets went on sale slightly earlier at the Town Hall website than they did at the official festival site, so they printed as Town Hall tickets... and that led to a spot of confusion. If you're not sure where to head, e-mail the good folks at the festival box office, and they'll set you straight. And, yeah, I traveled there on my own. What with my stupid back doubling me over every half-block or so (the pain migrates down around my lower back and across my hip and sets my left-side quads ON FIRE), and the epically gusty weather, I must have looked like an extra in the golf-course-storm finale of Caddyshack.... But was it worth it...? Oh, my God. He made me cry, in the best of ways. Like the song says, "I need to feel something different for just a little while." I did; I most certainly did....
