Awwww thanks girls! ;D I'm glad to be sharing the vid with you! It's the first one I've done and I thoroughly enjoyed making it... I have a physical and visual art background including choreography so I apply those perspectives onto the editing but the music is so dramatic and the words to the song ... Jeeeeeyz! Easy fit or what!!! I actually choreographed a solo/company figure skating performance on a frozen lake with the full length song about 2 years ago in Alberta. How random is that! (still waiting to be paid for that damn project) Anyway if I can find some spare time I have another Cilly film one to doo. Thanks again for the reviews it really keeps my pecker up!

I really loved Sunshine. Quite a lot. I'm a huge sci fi geek and I was surprised by Sunshine because I didn't expect to love it so much. The reviews were so so, and I had low-ish expectations, but I bought the DVD as soon as I found it. I watched it with my husband and we both adored it. We found it so startinlgy beautiful....the images, the concept, the music, the cript, the acting, the philosophical implications. When the credits started rolling we looked at each other and we said "let's watch the ending again!". I still think it was probably too complex and adult a movie to have much success. We agree it's one of our favorite sci fi movies ever.

Thanks for the links, I'll watch them as soon as I have some free time on my commuter train! In a lot of reviews people were complaining that the group of actors in Sunshine does not look like a bunch of astronauts at all. Well, that's the point, IMHO!! We can all agree Cillian is not Bruce Willis (sorry I'm comparing Michael Bay to Danny Boyle, ugh), but that's the point. Robert is a physicist. He's no action hero, he's a scientist, but he has to play the hero because he's thrown in this situation and he's the only one who can do it. Yes, he's a skinny sparrow of a boy and he doesn't seem capable of even lifting that spacesuit, but the whole movie is about survival. I think quite a lot of people completely missed the meaning of the film.

I agree, Leyla - Sunshine is probably misunderstood by a lot of people, and it really should have been appreciated more than it was. Robert Capa is my second favorite of Cillian's characters, and precisely for the reasons you mentioned: he's not a cartoon character or an action figure...he's a plausible scientist necessary to a critical mission, and he played the role to perfection.
That said, I still didn't like the whole Pinbacker angle in the last 20 minutes. When he made his reappearance, it redirected the film into a whole different avenue, and that was jarring to me. But that doesn't lessen my enjoyment of the rest of the film, and the spectacularly beautiful ending moments... ugh... among the most poignantly stunning I have seen.

Being a genre movie enthousiast, I must be the only one who actually liked the Pinbacker plot...I judged it as a symbol of what was happening, not in a realistic sense. What really peeved me was the DVD cover artwork. This one homevideo.about.com/od/dvdr6/fr/SunshineDVD07aa.htmUhm, maybe this is why people were expecting Armageddon? Though Cillian looks stunning, the cover is very WTF...and it made me laugh because It screams "Michael Bay minus the usual chick!" and well, that's not Sunshine.

LOL- that's the cover on my DVD! I knew what I was getting into when I saw the movie, luckily - and I definitely prefer brainier, nerdier sci-fi to vanquishing-the-alien-hordes sci-fi, lol. This image was once a movie poster, and when it was first released, I was so excited that Cillian was in the foreground of the photo. Before the movie hit theaters, I was unsure how much Robert Capa was going to be in it, since it featured an ensemble cast. I can't believe that was five years ago already. Anyway, I remember being super-thrilled the first time I ever saw this marquee poster. ;D Because Cillian wasn't shoved off into the background as a supporting character (as he later was in Inception and In Time). Ah, memories...

I had an Italian DVD (now it has disappeared, guess I gave it to someone who never returned it) and it featured the beautiful eye artwork. Then I bought the UK edition and it featured the Armageddon one ;D After I watched the movie for the let's say fifth time I picked up the DVD cover in my hands and I had a good look at it and I went I knew what the film was from the beginning, I never thought it was The Core 2....though The Core was way better than Arnageddon and it was a kind of a guiltu pleasure. Yet not in the same league as Alex Garland's writing. Oh I wish he did something new with our Cilly, I really love him.
