...and on that note, the strangest and most coincidental of things just happened. My half brother just sent me a message via Facebook. How odd, that we'd just been discussing it. He says he's been trying to get in contact for a long, long time :/
She never did break down. i think something she says is quite telling though when she implies that the reason she tells it like a story is because then she can pretend it's happening to someone else, or else she'll just cry and cry and never stop. It's a defence mechanism. A beautiful one, really.
She's so overwhelmed when she finally meets her 'mammy' though and I think it's actually wonderful that the woman has those bubble cut curls, the ones that Kitten really does relate to her. The one defining characteristic that is so strong in Kitten's mind is something that still holds true. Even if it's just an aesthetic, it's nice that she was right about that.

I'm in tears upon reading your relation to this beautiful film, 28Days and Bloody Rose! I myself have not had struggles similar to Kitten, but I also had a transgendered friend, and she wanted what Kitten wanted - to belong, and to be accepted. It hurts me to think of her now, but I love this film more than anything because Kitten reminds me of her, and you're right 28Days, it isn't Cillian on that screen. Kitten is like a real person to me, and I just love her SO much. I don't know how anyone couldn't love her. Cillian is such a rare actor in that he becomes his character to the point where all traces of himself have disappeared. To Cillian it's about the performance, and nothing else, and that's why he's phenomenal at what he does. You ladies have inspired me to watch BoP now.

That's so weird about your half brother 28Days, I hope you're coping with it all, it can't be easy.
and Cait I hope your friend did find acceptance and someone she could belong with! that is what I wish for my friend, I haven't talked to him in ages now because of his stupid controlling girlfriend...
I watched the movie again last night, and I haven't cried to it in a while actually but last night I did, it was 'good' tears though in some way...
I also had a funny experience, some days ago I watched 'Lat Night In Paris' with Marlon Brando and I was thinking of that scene where Kitten tells Bertie that he 'Bears absolutely no resemblance to Margarine Brando'... and watching the movie I just couldn't get Bertie and Kitten out of my head... I never noticed that was where that giant poster they pass was from...

I get to see this film on the big screen on Saturday. The IFI(irish film institute) are doing a Neil Jordan season to celebrate his career before Byzantium is released. I went to see Interview with the Vampire with my friend last week which was amazing- i love that film and i was so excited to get to see it in the cinema. And now i get to see Cillian as Kitten as well. I can't wait!
