Yes, everyone MUST read the Harry Potter series. It's the best! Other than that, I recommend Pride & Prejudice. I love that book so much! I'm not a big reader but those I will read...oh yeah, and LotR.

Harry Potter rocks my socks!! But other than that, I've just finished reading "Scarecrow" by Matthew Reilly and highly recommend if you like a thinking/thriller/action kind of story. Aha, but the real reason I love it is that most of things in the book are inexplicably connected to Mr Murphy - the title of the book, and the villian (who happens to be named Jonathan Killian). If they ever made a movie adaption, I'd love to see Cillian take on the role of Mr Killian.

The Harry Potter books are good. The Mitford series books by Jan Karon. The Agony & the Ecstasy (about Michelangelo) by Irving Stone. Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

Hunny, I saw that book in hte palce I went on vacation. I read the titel and was like staring at the book, picked it up and was actually dissapointed to not see a Cillian picture... xD I don't remember what was on the back though, I've read alot of back's-of-english-books in there. The only book I bought was 'The Bourne Legacy'. It was pretty cool, but now I'm thinking of reading 'Scarecrow' to, cause of what you said. ^^ Apart from the Harry Potter books and Garfields in english I also read a book named 'Witness in Death.' by J.D. Robb. It was okay, but I don't really know the average of a good english book cause I have read like four, maybe five of them this far.... xD

Absolutely anything by Dan Brown, especially 'Angels and demons' and 'The Da Vinci Code' -- the man is a literary genius!
Also, I'd like to suggest these :
The Secret Life of Bees ~ Sue Monk Kidd A Beautiful Mind ~ Sylvia Nasar A Prayer for Owen Meany ~ John Irving The Bridges of Madison County ~ Robert James Waller The Dubliners ~ James Joyce The Horseman on the Roof ~ Jean Giorno If Chins Could Talk... ~ Bruce Campbell The Journey of August King ~ John Ehle Lord of the Dead ~ Tom Holland Meeting Luciano ~ Anna Esaki-Smith Salem's Lot ~ Stephen King Wicked ~ Gregory Maguire

aside from allt he HP saga, conan dolyle's, oscar wilde's, patricia highsmith's books about tom ripley, I'd recommend roddy doyle (he is a GREAT irish contemporary writer) and patrick mc grabe (the one who wrote BOP), his books are very catchy either.

haha, mcgrabe
Yeah, anything by dan brown is excellent, I read all of his books a while ago. I don't know why everyone likes the DaVinci code the best, I absolutely LOVED angels & demons. Very intelligent book. Go read it. And I love HP too... hehe. Anyone can read that. I also like...
1. Mary Higgins Clark (On the street where you live + Night time is my time are my favorites... although there was another one but I forget the title. :p0 2. James Patterson. I loved his novels starring lindsay boxer. Probably because it's a female, but those were good. You know the books because they'll have a big number on it. 1st to Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd Degree and 4th of july. (Yes I like thrillers lol) 3. The House of the scorpion. That might be a childish book, but I liked that one. 4. The Sight + Firebringer byyy... David Clement-Davies. Those aren't for everyone though. They're like Watership Down, only for Deer + Wolves. And a tad darker. 5. William Nicholson -- Wind on Fire Trilogy. Haven't read those in a while, but I remember that they were awesome when I read them... well when I was like 10 lol
Sooo yeah everyone else's books are probably much more mature than mine but I'm only 14 remember ;D

If you're going to read a magical series, read the 'his dark materials' trilogy by phillip pullman as well as harry potter(but keep in mind i haven't read that since i was maybe twelve so my judgement on it may be faaar off).Trainspotting(if your mature enough) fantastic fantastic book. wouldn't reccomend it if you have a particularly weak stomach.anything by Irvine Welsh(trainspotting, porno) or Chuck Palahniuk (fight club, survivor) is good reading.I really liked Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer as well, fantastic movie too( in theaters now).
I may get stoned for this but i don't think Dan Brown is a brilliant writer, or even a good one.His writing is very inexperienced and just...bad, too much discription in the wrong places, too little in others A page turner though, great story, great research, just terrible writing. I enjoyed Da Vinci Code enough to get through it, but i just couldn't do it with Angels and Demons, i had to put it down.

Well that's okay that you dont like him, everyone has their own opinion (Pockets stone for someone who offends me more). Definitely a page turner, though. I tuned out a day of school and read the Da Vinci Code + Angels & Demons by putting them in my textbook I started a His Dark Materials book, but I put it down, and it's been there ever since . I've heard only good things about it though.

yeah see, i think it was because I was younger that I liked it so much. Same with The Series of Unfortunate events, i've loved them since fifth grade, but lately, for the last two years i just couldn't get through the last two or three books. I think Harry Potter is ageless though.

I would definitely recommend "A Confederacy Of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole. This has to be the funniest book I have ever read. ;D
I will also recommend anything by Ann Rule and "Running with Scissors" and "Dry" by Augusten Burroughs.

It's so hard for me to find good books! I'm get very clueless when I enter a bookstore! I really enjoyed the Dan Brown books though. I agree, not the best writer, but the subject matter in each of his books is very fascinating! It makes you question things. Also, I don't care if I'm 23, I am obsessed with the HP series! J.K. Rowling is a genious!
Hey Suzanne, what is "A Confederacy Of Dunces" about!?

totally a trashy summer ready book, lmao. my friend was reading it this summer while i was reading Girl With The Pearl Earring, and we had a whole discussion on it.
I read quite a few of the Georgia books when i was in middle school, they were fun reads.
