Hey everyone, This evening I saw Mulholland Drive for the first time, and I reckon it won't be the last. I have a feeling of what the movie is about, and I liked it, but I still don't understand everything. Anyone here who's also seen it and could give me their point of view on the whole illusion/reality issue the movie is dealing with?? Thanks a lot in advance

Sorry to bring up this pretty dead thread again, but I just recently became a fan of Naomi Watts. I recently watched Mulholland Drive since it's supposed to be her breakout role. I knew beforehand that it's not supposed to be your average thriller, but I honestly did not know what to expect from it. And my thoughts on this movie? At first, I was not sure if I liked it or not, but it really got me thinking afterwards. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. It's quite brilliant really. It was definitely strange and creepy but quite tragic and haunting. Naomi was excellent in it; I really felt her character's despair and frustration. She's amazing when it comes to expressing her character's emotions; it's all very believable. Naomi's a terrific actress with great range and definitely deserves more recognition. I got the gist of what was going on in the movie on my own already, but Lynch's 10 Clues really helped make everything a whole lot clearer. It's amazing how Lynch connected everything from beginning to end and how every little aspect of the movie had some meaning.

Definitely one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen. I don't really know what to think of it. I've only seen it once with my boyfriend and we were just like "...uh" after it was over. I'm thinking I'll see it again sometime.

Definitely see it again, quackattack. It's an incredibly strange movie, but it's also really quite profound. It's thought provoking, that's for sure.

This movie has been on my list of movies-to-see for SO long and I still haven't seen it. I LOVE Naomi Watts! I'll have to download this soon! (Rukia, if you haven't seen Naomi in I Heart Huckabees you have to rent/download/buy it immediately! It is a brilliant film regardless but she is insanely awesome and hysterical in it!)
I have literally no idea what the Mulholland Drive is about. I know there is supposed to be some semi-weird (or really horribly weird) sexual scene were Naomi is undressing and crying? I remember seeing her on Inside the Actors Studio and she was talking about how those tears were real because she was really uncomfortable with the scene and emotionally invested in the movie ..... but that is all I know about the movie! Haha
I do know that David Lynch is super strange, I love his Twin Peaks series, now that is truly amazing!

I've never seen Twin Peaks, but I've heard that it's quite bold in its subject matter. If you like Twin Peaks, I think you'll like Mulholland Drive, kaatopp. I didn't know what Mulholland Drive was all about either when I watched it; I just knew that it was not your ordinary thriller. To kind of give you an idea of what it's about ... it's about actresses, acting, making it big in Hollywood, and more. Much, much more. I don't want to spoil it all for you. Oh, and Naomi's involved in a pretty risqué love scene in it... Overall, it's a pretty gutsy role for Naomi to tackle, but it really helped to jump-start her career. She was incredible in this movie. She's definitely one of my favorite actresses right now and really deserves more recognition. Anyway, definitely watch Mulholland Drive! Oh, and I've seen I Heart Huckabees already. It was a pretty nutty comedy. I liked it. The main character (that guy seeking help from the existential detectives) got on my nerves at times, and that random hump scene in the woods just came out of nowhere to me, but other than that, I thought it was pretty hilarious.

I watched it again and it makes much more sense upon multiple viewings. I really enjoyed it and I think Naomi Watts is a great actress.
By the way, I've noticed there're some Naomi fans on here. If you haven't seen Funny Games (the U.S. version that came out this year), you should see it. I dunno if it's still in theaters or not, but it was good and it was once again, another good performance by her.

I haven't even seen Naomi's other latest film, Eastern Promises, unfortunately. There are many of Naomi's films that I still need to check out. I don't think Funny Games is in theaters any longer. I heard it's coming to DVD in June though. Even though I'm a fan of Naomi, I've been hesitant to see it because of all the bad reviews from critics. I'm also not into torture films too much either... but perhaps I'll check it out when it comes out on DVD.

Ohh boo, I didn't realize Funny Games got bad reviews. I thought it looked so cool and twisted and weird. I'll still see it, someday, but that stinks to hear that it wasn't received very well.
Rukia, you should definitely check out Twin Peaks, it is awesome. I need to watch it again too, its been too long, but it is crazy and so good!

^Though critics didn't give Funny Games the best reviews, it has a 7.0/10 on IMDb, which I'd say is pretty good. It is twisted and weird and rukia, if you're worried about it being graphic, it's not really. It's more disturbing than graphic.

Critics like Ebert gave Funny Games only half a star! I was like, "Whoa, it must be really bad." Sometimes, I look at what critics say about movies before I see them, but they're not always right, I know. Yeah, but if imdb gave it a 7.0/10, it must be pretty good; I go by imdb ratings, too. It's also good to know that it's not so graphic; there are some things that I just can't handle seeing on-screen. Thanks for letting me know, quackattack.
Kaatopp, about Twin Peaks, do you mean the TV series or the actual movie? Either way, it looks really strange! I'll be sure to check it out one day.
