Thank you musicofdarkness (I too love Phantom of the Opera). After reading your review I think I'll look forward to see it then. I didn't really know what to think about Keira as Lizzie but if she convinced you despite of your prejudices the movie must be worth seeing Though I will stay away from watching the BBC production, so I don't compare them too much

I think any Austen fan should see this movie. I think it'd definitely be worth it even if you didn't enjoy it. I haven't seen the BBC production in a while (a month or so), so I didn't compare the movie to it. I went in with the attitude that if I didn't like it, I always had the book and the mini-series to fall back on. Plus, not comparing it to any other version did help. Just go in with an open mind If anyone who wants to hear Ebert and Roeper's review of the movie, it's on their web-site now. Though, I warn you, Roeper's review was pretty lame.

I've read all Austens novels because I really like the way she describes people. I always get a very clear impression of the person after a few lines. Especially the minor characters like mrs. Norris, who I guess gave inspiration to madame Norris in Harry Potter, the obnoxous cat. Can't imagine J.K.R. haven't read Austen. I don't think Pride and Prejudice have had premiere in Denmark but I'll look forward to it. And I have to find someone to see it with. I so far liked most movies based on Austen novels. The exception is Mansfield Park. I can't stand that one because it has some weird underlying implications, that I don't think is true to Austen at all.

Yes, we all know slavery affected Austen's world more than she would openly admit in her novels, but trying to force the piece to be more political than it was didn't really work, IMHO.

I thought all the not-so-hidden sexuality was too much and totally over the top.

I thought all the not-so-hidden sexuality was too much and totally over the top. I agree. It's about subtlety.

This movie is really beautiful. It has a great cast and I love the setting. So peaceful, unlike now.

*dusts topic* Wow, I'm happy I found this, hahah.
I finally got around to seeing the BBC version! I loved it muchly, Colin Firth is one of my favorite actors. Originally, I had read the book and then seen the 2005 version, but the BBC version was extremely hard to get my hands on. But anyway, about this one..
Truthfully, I adore this version. It was a fresh take on the novel, kind of like a 'moving summary'. I thought Matthew and Keira had wonderful chemistry, it was filmed gorgeously, Darcy was just the right amount of brooding and Lizzie was just the right amount of wit. I just adore it so much that I get over the little things (but Caroline's dress -- as mentioned before -- kind of irked me). The ending was a bit much (I hear it was only shown to American audiences though?), but we could all use a bit o' fluff sometimes.
It's a lovely movie, I love it to bits.

A Classic! But,even if I like Austen's style,I have to admit that it was the best adaptation from her works.Keira&Matthew's 'Pride & Prejudice' was absolutely amazing!
