Yeah, I'm a year or so late, but oh well. I finally watched it a few weeks ago, and it's been stuck in my head ever since.
1. What did you think? I wondered what everyone else thought of it. I've been getting mixed feedback. 2. Anyone have a picture of the rose the phantom leaves? I want it for a xanga layout...

I didn't really care for it. I wasn't too impressed with the singing. And I didn't like the characters. With the Phantom, I kept thinking, "You're ugly. She's beautiful. You gave her singing lessons. She's not going to fall madly in love with you because of it. Get over it and move on." With Christine, I kept thinking, "Make a decision. You either want to live in a stinky cave with the phantom, or you want to have the rich handsome guy as your husband. I really don't care who you pick, but please choose quickly. I'm getting frustrated with you." I just didn't enjoy myself.

LOL@ ladygreenleaf! Well. for me.. the story was obviously the same as the play, although this phantom was alot more gentle! He didn't kill anyone too visciously! As far as the actors/actresses, I thought Emmy Rossum did a great job! Oh, and beautiful songs. Here's a picture of the phantom's "rose" blue. Is this what you wanted?

My 10cents ... I really love the Phantom story ...ever since I was a kid and saw the black & white version!! (and if you are wondering... the B&W version is OLDER then I am!!) I thought Gerard Butler was an awesome Phantom - very raw compared to Michael Crawford. Patrick Wilson did an amazing job as Raoul and the sound track is fabulous!

I love thesoundtrack. Gerard Butler isn't that great a singer though... It was irritating me a bit. But I did sympathize with him. What amazed me was that the girl was only 16 when she did that movie. Makes me feel quite incompetent

Well, she may have been only 16, but she had been singing in the Metropolitan opera since she was little. Anyhow, it's one of my favorite movies.

It makes me jealous I've always wanted to be able to sing. When you're surrounded by friends who are great singers, you feel pretty bad. And people act like its nothing..

I've been a phan for 6 years, so I was really excited when I heard the movie was coming out. I enjoyed it. It made me fall in mad, mad love with Gerard Butler. (For the record, I don't think he's the best singer but I think he brought a certain *something* to the role that really worked.) I'm going to teach it in my Gothic Horror class.

I LOVE THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!! a;dfklja;df;lakjdf;k. yeah. its undesribable pretty muchl. I've only seen it twice though. so sad. But I just absolutly love it. and its one of my favorite cds. i could listen to it forever. But I absolutly H.A.T.E. the movie. like... gah!!!hag!!!! agh!!! it might be an ok movie if it were just a movie, but because it was based on the musical, i saw it and the whole time i was like... this is soooo bad. I mean, gerad butlers voice was pretty good. but whoever that girl was no. badd.... bad!!! her voice just wasn't as matured and it didn't have the sound, the quality that makes you just go "oooh...." ya know? or maybe i just dont like it because im so used to the musical soundtrack. But the movie. ag. BUt i seriously love the phantom of the opera. screw p*ssy boy raoul.

The Phantom of the Opera was my pre-Cillian obsession, and it lasted around a year, until the movie came out. Then... uhg...
I hated the movie. They took the most beautiful and tragic love story of all time, put in a hot guy who can't sing and smeared red paint on one side of his face so that he'd look sunburnt in an attempt to downplay the Phantom's true, and very hideous, disfigurement.
I didn't like how they portrayed the characters, either. Everyone was too lusty for their own goods, and the innocence portrayed in the novel version and mostly in the orginal musical production was cut nearly completely.
On a happier note, Raoul could sing and he looked absolutely homosexuel, which was a major plus for me, lol. I can't stand his character, although I understand him at times. And I also liked Emmy Rossum's voice. It gave her an innocence her performance lacked, I think.
And...there's my two cents, lol.

^I thought Emmy's voice was pretty... Definitely innocent. It just bothered me how one second she was wearing 0 eye makeup, and the next second she's got the whole makeup counter on.

^ Tell me about it! When music of the night started, I was like, "Whoa. What in the heck happened to your eyes?" But I think with the whole wh*re make-up thing the team was just trying to get her to look legal. She was only seventeen, so maybe that was it. Definately weird though.
