Video gamer or not, everyone has to have heard of the amazing game, Metal Gear Solid. And of course there's going to be a movie version coming out sometime soon. I'm so very thankful Hideo Kojima (the maker of MGS) is not letting Uwe Boll (who should DIAF) be the director. And when thinking of the cast, here's what I've come up with. This is going to be a really long post, BTW.
Potential Solid Snake Actors
Snake is going to be a bit tricky. He definitely needs to be tough and manly, but also believable as a stealthy espionage spy. The actor should also be good at mimicking the gruff voice Snake's voice actor gave him and he must also be sexy. Snake just isn't Snake without the sexiness. Who do I think is good for this?
Christian Bale
I've heard rumors of Christian as Snake, and it seems like really good casting. However, there hasn't been anymore news and updates lately and Christian's been busy as Batman, so it seems like he's not going to be Snake. Still, it's really good.
Hugh Jackman
Just look at them! Hugh looks almost exactly like Snake! He could even get the gruff, scratchy voice down to pat. Although I'm not sure if Hugh would want to take up the role of surly, gruff, smartass anti-hero again (since he's most famous as Wolverine in X-Men).
Eric Bana
I thought he was amazing in Munich, but I unfortunately haven’t seen any of his other films, so I’m not sure if he's the best choice to play Snake. He definitely fits into the tough guy image though.
Potential Meryl Silverburgh Actresses
Just about every character in MGS is pretty tricky to cast, to be honest. Meryl's actress should have a good combination of beauty, intelligence, love, strength, and perserverence. She should also have auburn-ish hair too.
Rachel McAdams
Rachel is the definite Meryl in my mind. I know that Rachel's not exactly the type who'd want to do a big-budget action film, but the Metal Gear series aren't like cookie-cutter action movies with no plot, bad acting, and over-the-top explosions and gunfights and the like; they actually have deep, immersive storylines with very interesting, human characters. Besides, I personally think it's about time she did an action role, and Rachel's hair's the right color and she's more than pretty enough to be Meryl.
Emily Blunt
I think she's beautiful and talented and she hasn't gotten much attention. I don't know if she's got the emotional range to play Meryl though, since I've only seen her in a couple movies.
Potential Liquid Snake Actors
The hard part about casting Liquid is that he's supposed to be Snake's "twin brother" with only a few differences (particularly their skin tones and hair). The actor should be well built and strong, and should bear some resembelance to Solid's actor.
James Holloway
Looks wise, James completely fits the bill, but I'm not sure about his ability to do that pseudo-British accent Liquid has in the games.
Jeremy Renner
Okay, I haven't seen him in much, besides S.W.A.T. and 28 Weeks Later. But he seems to have the looks for Liquid and he was a good villain in S.W.A.T. so maybe he can pull this off.
Potential Hal "Otacon" Emmerich Actors
Otacon, as it's obviously seen here, is pretty nerdy. He's not much of a fighter, but he's still very important to Snake since he's a very smart scientist and able hacker who can figure out the enemy's plans and he's always willing to give Snake a little inspiration when the going gets tough. Otacon's actor should be on the small side for sure, and be able to pull off the cute nerd look too.
Cillian Murphy
As I've said in a past post, Cillian is definitely the best for Otacon in my mind. We all know that Cillian's a definite chameleon and he'd get all of Otacon's personality traits down pat.
That's all for now. I'll come up with more later for other characters (Mei Ling, Revolver Ocelot, Roy Campbell, Psycho Mantis, Raiden, among others).
