So i recently saw this movie and i really really liked it. like i finished and i wasn't clear as to the ending and such but the acting(save for drew) was outstanding and i their were so many great one liners. i also loved donnie's relationship with Gretchen.
but now i want to understand exactly what happened.
my theory is, donnie was led out of bed by frank of the future who we later learned was dead, and because he was led out, the plane engine didn't kill him.
because the plane engine didn't kill him...he escaped his set path to an alternate universe and went on this 28 day journey to find out how to stop the world from ending as frank told him it would. along the way he's geting these clues and at the end he runs off to roberta sparrows home, to the cellar, where gretchen dies("frank is gonna kill" as donnie tells his strink the day before) and then donnie shoots frank in the eye. and he's dead.and gretchen is dead and then donnie goes home and kisses his sister good bye because he knows now what he has to do.
but what i don't understand is how dead frank existed before donnie shot him? dead frank was from the future, but he saved donnie, so how was he even around to save donnie before..wait..i'm confusing myself. forget that question.lol
my other question, how does donnie know whathe has to do? how did he go back in time? when he was on the hill, i suspect he saw the time portal or whatever and that was why he was smiling, but how did he physically go back in time, and when he went back, did he know of everything that had occured for the past 28 days in the tangent universe and if so is that why he stayed in bed(to be killed) so the universe wouldn't collapse like frank said?
so if i go by the idea that the tangent universe was created because the engine broke off from the future(the plane donnies mom and sister were on) and somehow fell 28 days into the past then donnies role was the manipulate the next 28 days to match a situation where a wormhole could be created so the 28 days in the tangent universe would be reversed and replaced by the primary universe where donnie stays in bed.i suspect that would explain why he didn't phsyically go back in time, because then he wouldn't have to, only the engine would.
i ahvea growing feeling i didn't quite understand this film,lol. but i liked it anyway. i haven't seen the directors cut, should i?

. I like your theory, I keep reading that frank was a demon, but I think he was an angel. ;D whats your fav. part? I liked the theature/donnie burning jim's house
