NONE of this means I don't love Cillian anymore, & if any of you believe that.....your...odd. Anyways. Ok, bare with me people. I'm on this whole Buffy.....thing. It's just my new 'thing'. My friend got me into it recently, around last week sometime by sending me this video of the song "Let Me Rest In Peace" that the character Spike(James Marsters) sings in the musical episode of Buffy entitled "Once More With Feeling". I saw him & was like........hmm, I always knew I should have watched this show when it was on TV!! And I've been hooked since I saw it. And yes, here's the shallow part. It was Spike(James Marsters) that hooked me because he was/is real hott & has a great voice, blah, blah, blah, ya'll know the drill. All that, & I am a fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar. Anyways, now I'm on this Buffy mission if you will. I've downloaded, as of now, probably as many Spike videos as I have of Cillian. I called my library & rented these 3 videos(which didn't turn out to be what I expected). Each tape has 2 episodes of Buffy & I have no idea from what seasons so I've seen a total of 6 episodes that are in random order & yeah I know the main story....but am so lost otherwise. I thought they would be, you know the complete season DVDS but when I picked them up.....yeah, I have no such luck. But, the ones I've seen from those videos; I love them!! I'm hooked now on this show, & no joke, some have scared me(again I'm easy to scare) but still. They've had me on the edge of my seat & I just love the show. Ah, & here's the thing, I rented them for Spike, love the episodes......yeah, not a one has Spike in it. Anyways, hopefully this weekend I'm gonna go to Hollywood video or something & rent the proper season DVD's I wanted & I will eventually watch this whole series. Oh, & course, apparently it's intertwined with this Angel series so I'll have to see that too. Now, I'm starting this thread so Buffy/Angel fans out there can just tell me about the show, maybe clear somet things up for me, just share their love of the show, etc. And yeah, yeah, this all may sound weird & stupid & impulsive(which it is) but again, just please bare with me. And YES Spike is way hott.....but, I still love Cillian. It's just one of those phase things. So...go ahead; post.

I started watching Buffy at the end of the first season, and became more than a little obsessed with it. Spike isn't a regular character, he's recurring, which means he's in episodes here and there, but not in every season, only 6. He's first introduced in the third episode of Season 2, "School Hard." Then he's in various episodes throughout the rest of the series. He's also in some of the early seasons of Angel, and became a regular there in Season 5, Angel's last (sob!) season. Buffy and Angel are shows where you can watch an episode here and there and get something out of them, but they mean so much more if you can see them as God (Joss Whedon) intended, in order. There's a lot of mythology, a lot of backstory, and some huge changes for most of the characters. However, you've got 7 years of Buffy and 5 years of Angel to catch up on, so you might want to get started. Some episodes are pretty scary, some are just plain emotionally devastating. IMO, "The Body" is one of the finest episodes of any TV show ever. Some episodes may have you screaming, swearing, and throwing stuff at the TV. Not that I ever went quite that far... but I was tempted. You can probably rent both series through Netflix or your local video store. They've recently released all of Buffy in cheaper, slimline editions for $27.99 or so a season, and I think the slimline ones for Angel are coming out in a couple of weeks, at most, at the same price. They were originally at least twice as much, at least the retail price; Amazon usually has them for around $40-$45, plus you can get them used for less. Or you can get the various seasons through eBay or Half.com. The good thing with those is, after you watch them, if you really don't want to keep them, they should be easy enough to resell. I'm pretty sure you can find reruns of Buffy on TV, but at the moment I don't recall which channel is airing them. I don't think they're currently showing reruns of Angel. BTW, Angel was a recurring character on Buffy, and got his own spin-off show, which I think started the same year as the 4th season of Buffy, and there was some crossover between various characters on both shows. The problem with seeing the episodes out of order is that sometimes you get major spoilers for things that were building up for quite a while on the series, so it's a bummer if you're trying to watch in order and you already know that X character dies or Y character goes through some major physical/emotional/mystical changes. I loved the writing, the characters, the plots, the overall feel of the show. Be aware, however, that Joss Whedon, the evil mastermind behind the series, is a cruel, twisted bastard, as well as a genius, and I mean that as a compliment. No one is safe, so if you become too attached to any character, you may not only have your heart broken, but also ripped out, stomped on, and set on fire, with little or no warning. OTOH, I think it's impossible to really get involved in the show and not care deeply about some, if not most, of the characters. I loved almost all of 'em, on both shows. Have fun! Oh, in case you haven't noticed: Both shows have many gorgeous castmembers. All the Joss Whedon shows, in fact, have outstandingly attractive actors & actresses, so they're all easy on the eyes. The third Whedon show is Firefly, which was the basis of the movie Serenity, which came out last year. Excellent sci-fi/western mix, and I usually hate westerns. Firefly only aired for 10 episodes, I believe, before it was rudely cancelled, but you can get the whole dang series on DVD for about $25, all 13 glorious episodes. I highly recommend it, though IMO it's not quite as good as Buffy. There are at least 2 other Buffy threads here, but beware of major and distressing spoilers in those threads. I mean it, if you read them, you'll wish you hadn't. If these posts get moved to one of those threads, skip the first couple of pages and go to the most recent one and don't read anything before your post.

Wow.......you have been very informative. And ya know where you get spoilers?! YouTube. Yeah, go there to watch nice music videos with Spike, what do I get?! Death & rape!! He....he.....yeah, can't even. I mean I've seen 6 episodes & none of which have him........but I tell you those music videos can get you hooked just as easily to a character. I have to watch this series, tomorrow I'm gonna go to Hollywood video & rent as many seasons as I can. And as far as the episodes actually scaring you, yeah, it works. lol. Like the episode called "The Puppet Show" with the kid Morgan & his dummy Cid........that thing, I almost cried in fear, though it was helped along by my fear of dummys/dolls, etc. Those things terrify me. And then in the first episode(the actual pilot episode) made me jump twice, & scream aloud. Which, is ok cause I was alone in my room but yeah. I have no doubt I will get attached to the characters. I can't wait to be able to see the episodes in order(so I won't be lost). Cause one episode I saw, the first one I watched, she found out Angel was a vampire & then course I saw the pilot after that were she first meets Angel & other things so yeah. Like I said, the videos have no season labels on them so I had NO idea which ones to watch first. Thank you so much for all your info on the show(s). Anyone else have info or just wanna share your love of the show go ahead. I would look at those other threads but Im now kinda afraid to as I've been warned there are major spoilers & I've had enough of those from music videos so.

I swear there was already a thread about this... because, my friend Chris joined this forum just to talk in that thread. Lame, I know. He's obsessed with Buffy and Angel. He knows everything there is to know about the show. And he owns a fansite (which nobody visits).
I'm so harsh on him. lol

Yeah, I did see that thread, but as I mentioned in my post, it's full of spoilers. People were assuming everyone reading it was watching the show and didn't need spoiler warnings.

As for me,I didn't watch Buffy on TV either I rented all the dvds!!lol But I really love this show,it's very good!!! My favourite episode is "Hush":I believe it's in the fourth season... this episode is perfect but it's kind of scary!! It's funny because in this episode everybdy is mute but I think it's the best episode!LOL and just like stormy said the episode "The body" is very sad but I like it even if when I watched it I cried a little bit. But you know wigwambam you make a good decision by deciding to watch this show of good quality!! I mean Joss Whedon is very very taleted ans so are the actors(I adore Sarah Michelle Gellar!) in the show I really liked the character of Oz interpreted by Seth Green(I think he only appears in the second or third season):he was cute lol and I was so sad when he left the show... By the way,a friend of mine likes Spike just like you!

Yeah, lol. Thus far it's a great show. Course, I am dissapointed again. They REALLY need to label boxes better. I went to Hollywood Video today to rent the Buffy DVD's, & I thought I got like every season except 7 cause the boxes said 1, 2, 3, 4,5, 6, & so on. So I get home & go to watch it....Yeah, the 1 stands for disc one of season 2! And disc 3 is for disc 3 of season two! And disc one is like disc two for season one! So I have like....disc's 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc of season 2; which I assume is most the season. And I have disc 2 of season 1!! It's so confusing!! And course, I don't have disc 2 of season two there by probably misisng like 5 Spike episodes!! Course, I do get a few episodes of Spike(which are........quite lovely to say the least). But I now have to see like all of season one, & five missed episodes of season two between episodes 3 & 9. God, why is it so hard with these DVD's I mean, can't I just rent or borrow the box set from some where as opposed to having to buy it between the prices of $100 & $200!! Course not, no such luck. And I've decided I don't like Drusilla........(I mean, cool character or whatever, it's mainly just the Spike jealousy thing). But course, wait till he & Buffy hook up. So frustrating!! And yeah, I'd look for the other Buffy threads but i don't want more spoilers then I already have.

What is it?

Here's an episode guide. www.buffyguide.com/episodes.shtmlThis link will take you to the IMDB guide for all the Spike episodes (91 altogether). It lists them in the order he appeared, but it only gives the date aired, not Season 2, Ep 1, or anything quite that detailed. imdb.com/name/nm0551346/filmoseries#tt0118276I think if you print out the list, and compare it to the episode guide, you can find out which eps Spike is in each season. It can get confusing if you're going to rent a season at a time, and you do have to look carefully at the display to see which season and disk you're getting. OTOH, trying to borrow an entire series can be problematic, too, so unless you have a friend who lives nearby who has the show on DVD (or VHS), it might be best to go for the rentals and check what each disk says. If you look on eBay, you'll find some copies of the Chosen collection (the entire series on DVD) for around $120-130, but there's always the possibility the price will go up. As frustrating as it is to have to wait to see everything, people can't usually get instant gratification by obtaining a whole TV series all at once, unless they can afford to buy it. Really, 40 discs for $160 or so is not at all a bad price. Originally, for those of us buying the DVD sets one at a time when they came out, we had to pay around $40 per season, so $40 x 7 = $280. I'd say the Chosen set is a real bargain in comparison! Or you could try to get the individual seasons used.

No, I agree. As expensive as the box(choosen) set is, it's a good bargain. Lol, it's just I don't have the money at the moment. I've seen most(not all) of season one. And I just finished watching all(but one disc) of season 2! I laughed, cried, screamed & jumped!! NO television series has gotten all 4 of those outta me(especially not all in one season). That "Killed by death" episode, I was watching these late last night & got to that one around 1 am.....I would NOT go to bed after it. I was paranoid & kept looking around as I watched the last episodes, looking for that dang death creature......was so scared, lol. I stayed up till 2:30-3am watching them & was determined not to fall asleep. Fell asleep round 4, woke up at 7 so I got bout 3 hours of sleep. I looked at Walmart online....each season(seperately as they don't have the box set) is like $26.84 & then I added the soundtrack cd to the musical episode, totals to like $202.94. If I got the box set from Barnes&Noble, plus the cd...it's like $292.36...basically a hundred dollar difference. So, hopefully, unless Walmart ends up having the Box Set in stock, I'll just get them individually & the cd as I said. From what I've seen, I LOVE THIS SERIES!! Course, mind you I wanted to like strangle Drusilla the whole time & was cheering for Spike all the way. And through season 1 & 2....I don't like Angel, at all really. Soul filled or soul less, just don't care for him. I didn't feel bad for him for one second until the last episode where she finally got him back & then......yeah. That's the only time where I was like "Aw, poor Angel". But I felt for Buffy through the whole ordeal, she cried I cried. And poor Jenny....that got me crying too.

Angel was one of the few characters I never quite connected with. I liked Drusilla, but then, I didn't have a thing for Spike. I liked the character of Spike, sometimes, but wasn't attracted to him, so there were no jealousy issues. My guy was Xander; I tend to prefer nice, sweet, kind of geeky guys.

Yes, I do adore Xander, next to Spike he would be my fave character. Drusilla....I mean, with Spike or not; girl just drives me crazy(her character, nothing wrong with the actress) I wanted to strangle her like the whole time; she drives me nuts!!!! Which, I suppose her character isn't meant to be liked so it all works. Angel....yeah, no connection him to him until like his last moment like I said, & I think I only cared about it cause of Buffy.

Holy c***! Just clicked on that other Buffy thread that came outta no where thinking it was mine & read too much!! I don't want to know all that! All I wanted to know, & someone better tell me right now, does Spike die in "The Body" episode?! Cause I've read billions of reviews on the series & everyone says like "The Body" is the best, I really liked....blank, etc. I know he dies, just wanna know what episode(of what season).

No, Spike does not die in that episode. Someone else dies, however, which is why it freaked out so many people. It has got, however, one of my favorite Spike moments ever, when we briefly see a very sweet side of him.
I'll answer the question of which episode in a PM.
If you want to keep this thread spoiler-free, you might try re-naming it: Buffy & Angel for new viewers - no spoilers plzthx Anything longer won't fit! Or ask Shannon for advice.

There's currently a sale at Amazon for the slimcase editions of Buffy and Angel. Each season set of Buffy is now $19.99, and for Angel, $29.99
Those are *really* good prices, down from the $50-60 list price.
