For all the folks in UK - don't the books remind you of Enid Blyton books? She was my fav growing up in India and I loved loved loved her imagination too.

For all the folks in the US - check out amazon.com for a few Enid Blyton books if you love Happry Potter style stories. She had a similar style and amazon only has a limited collection of her books but they are absolutely amazing.
