Hello! I'm a huge Cillian fan, so I just had to join in here ;D Anyway, I don't know if this theory has already been posted somewhere else, if it was please let me know... but I was reading another one of Patrick McCabe's novels called The Dead School, which was a really good book by the way, and discovered that one of the two main characters was a guy named Malachy Dudgeon. The character Malachy was a person, when he was a young boy, that had discovered his mother was having an affair, and because of that he always believed that "love was in the grave." He was a pretty heartbroken character, and when he grew up he experienced more proof that love was in the grave when a woman he loved deeply had an affair also and left him. I'm sure that somewhere Cillian mentioned that he loved Patrick McCabe's books, so I thought it might be possible that he read the book, and got the name for his son from that character. Even so, it could still be a coincidence. But I thought it was interesting...

That is interesting... It's a good theory as well. Seeing as he likes Pat's books and all. I wouldn't be surprised if it was true... CB for noticing that, that's cool.

Malachy is a very popular name in Ireland, he could have got it from anywhere.

I wonder what it means? I'm going to go namesearch it....
Okay. I'm back. I couldn't find the exact spelling of his son's name, but I found a version of it. "Malachi" is Hebrew for Messenger of God.
I also looked up Cillian's name and I don't know if anyone has posted this before....but it means War.

Malachite is also a quartz/stone that has protective properties for children, and promotes health and well-being and peace of mind.

I love the name as well. I admit when I first heard that Cillian named his son Malachy, I was sort of like, " He wants to name him that?" That was the last name I ever expected he would name his son. But now, I realize the name does have a nice ring to it, and it's actually a very pretty name.

I like the name, I mean I was kinda like "Why would you name your kid that?" at first, but it's since grown on me. Cillian not only means war, but "Killian" is an Irish beer, I saw it at the grocery store & cracked up,lol. That got me some weird looks.

Yep, it's called Killian's Irish Red. (The name George or something like it is written really small above the Killian's). I confess, I bought it and drank it for the name alone. - On a different note, the book is called The Dead School? I'm totally interested in it now..

I love his son's name. I remembered when I was younger I saw a movie called children of the corn and the main bad character's name was Malachy. So that is what I think of when I hear it. I am sure that is not where he got the name from. It's just what came to mind. Good theory on the McCabe book character. By the way I love Irish beer and Killians red is so good. Now if I drink it has to be Killians. lol
