www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5iGt37kIlvOR2v-SbmXYyDQ79H78gBarnes and Noble today: a display honoring the fortieth anniversary of The Summer of Love. Boy-howdy-on-a-biscuit, did Working Title drop the marketing ball on this one or what...? Directing, writing, AND editing woes. That's some kind of trifecta. They need to clone Irving Thalberg, stat. Filmdom, all of it and sundry, needs someone who can actually produce-- as in someone who can find filmable stories (with beginnings, middles, endings, and engaging characters), raise funds, and smooth feathers among the artistes. Guess this one's off the TIFF list....

I thought they were done with the movie and it was for sure coming out sometime this year. Nooooo. It better not get scrapped.

There's a little bit about Hippie Hippie in the Irish Daily Star today and all it says is this: "Actor Cillian Murphy's new film Hippie Hippie Shake has been branded 'an absolute stinker'. The Cork hunk stars opposite Sienna Miller in the film, based on Richard Neville's memoir of his obscenity trial as editor of satirical mag Oz in the swinging 1960's. But British publisher Felix Dennis- played by The IT's Crowd's Chris O'Dowd in the film- has blasted the film, due to be released later this year "It is possibly the worst film to be made in the 21st Century" He said. Dennis claimed the film was "an absolute dogs' breakfast made of a terrific story". The film was shot in 2007, but it's release has been repeatedly delayed."That doesn't sound very good. But i'm hoping he's a really pompous ass who was just determined to put the film down no matter what.... Chris O'Dowd is usually a great actor and so is Cillian so i wonder did he think the actors were awful too or just the way the director made it.

I read that too only they were calling it Sienna Miller's new film in the one I saw but they used the same quotes and wording. Jeez, can it really be that damn bad?? Pretty crappy to print this before it's even released and giving the public the chance to decide for themselves. I feel bad for Cillian if he has read this knowing all the work he put into the film since we all know he doesn't half ass anything.

Felix Dennis was the youngest of the group prosecuted during the Oz obscenity trial. The judge said to him words to the effect that as it was clear that he (Dennis) was too youthfully dumb to shoulder a full share of responsibility for the magazine and its contents, he deserved a sentence shorter than those of Richard Neville (Cillian's character) and illustrator Martin Sharp. Of the three, ironically, Dennis went on to have the most prominent and influential career, as a businessman and publisher. I don't think he's being petty, or merely pompous: while bringing the Oz trial to light for a new generation might be a buzz for Neville, who's continued to be an outspoken social commentator, to Dennis, who's followed a more traditional social path with his life, it might seem needlessly or dangerously close to resurrecting an old scandal, especially if the script and editing present the story less than precisely. Always a risk, I suppose, when dramatizing relatively recent-- and controversial-- historical events: someone who lived through those events will come away thinking that his or her toes have been well and truly stomped.

I just read in Ireland.com that Hippie Hippie Shake needs to film more scenes and they are waiting for Sienna to be available. The movie is now sheduled to be released sometime in 2010. Why don't they just show Cillian's scenes on youtube and throw the rest away.

I don't know if this has been posted or not, but over at IMDB, the UK release date for Hippie is 2/5/2010. Due to all the bad news attached to this movie, I'm not all that excited about it anymore, to be honest.

Yeay! Thanks for the info! I take what critics say with a grain of salt. I don't agree with them on some of my favorite movies so I for one am still excited! I hope it does well despite the bad press.

I really hope this movie comes out soon. I don't like to listen to critics, or anyone for that matter. I'd rather watch the movie myself and then form my OWN opinion. I love Sienna and Cillian, I really hope it gets released, even if it's just straight to DVD lol.
And also, Cillian seems to always pick great roles, I doubt this movie could be that bad?
