I can't help but be somewhat disappointed that the guy seems to have made up his mind that he doesn't want to play any more at this moment in time. I can appreciate why he wouldn't want to be type cast as a result of constantly playing the same types of parts over and over - and why it is he's keen on exploring a variety of acting roles to keep his career challenging and interesting. But at the same time, it seems such a shame to me that an actor as gifted as he is at playing villainous characters would give up on the idea completely. Especially as I strongly feel that we've not necessarily seen the best of him to come yet - considering he's only played this type of role a couple of times so far. I really do hope that eventually, perhaps after he's explored some more different roles, that he'll have a change of heart. Does anyone else think the same?

I agree. He's really good at playing villians, I think he should do a few more movies as the bad guy.

Well he always says he's all about the script so I think if the right villain script comes along he wouldn't be able to pass it up. I think he just doesn't want to mindlessly grab at all the villain roles because that is what people are trying to type cast him as and that might be the majority of what he is offered. I don't think he is foolish enough to reject a role simply because it is a villain role even if it is the most amazing script ever. I think he likes being a bad boy ( ) it's just not all he wants to do. So I wouldn't be surprised if he does more villains in the future. ;D (oh please oh please! lol ) I agree he is so damn good at playing villains!!!

I agree,I really liked him in Watching the Detectives too! Someone said comedy isn't his strong point but I think the whole scene with him in the bathroom getting ready to come out and attack is freaking hilarious and a lot of what makes it funny is his mannerisms! ;D I don't want him to give up other genres but I don't want him to give up bad guys either is what I'm saying.

Agreeing that it would definitely also be nice to see Cillian doing a bit more comedy! I've not yet seen Watching The Detectives, but have seen some short clips from the film and really liked what I saw.
Also Larvalee, very much hoping that you're right there! It would just seem like such a pitiful waste of good talent to me if something really good like that did come along and he turned it down. I have to say that one thing that takes me back, is that he seems as surprised as he does (going by an interview article I read online) that as many people remember him for his roles as Scarecrow and Jackson Rippner as they do - as the performances were so outstanding. I guess though at the same time, it's possible he's disappointed his more recent work doesn't get as much attention. Which - if it is the case - wouldn't be too suprising really.

I think it's understandable that he would have some reluctance to play bad guys. He's interested in a full experience as an actor, playing all different kinds of parts throughout his career, so if he lets himself fall into the trap of taking all the villain parts that are now offered him post-Red Eye and Batman Begins, he really might never get anything else but bad guy parts again. Typecasting does derail actors' dreams for their careers, and since you only live once, I can't really say I blame him.
That said, I do enjoy him in villain roles as much as I do in others. And he may be playing a villain in Inception -- we still don't know what his role is. So take heart -- you might be seeing villain Cillian on the big screen next summer!

That is indeed a good thing to know!

Oh god yeah he could pull that off! He'd be the sexiest vampire ever! But I think they should leave his eyes alone. face it, they are creepy enough the way they are!! ;D I miss him playing bad men too. He's Sooooooooo good at it. I know he doesn't want to be stereotyped but hes too good at being bad to just stop forever! Jackson Rippner was the hottest villian I ever saw. Theres a really good fan site out there for him too. I still think its too bad they never madea sequel to Red Eye! Im not too sure they could have but I loved the chemistry between Lisa and Jackson, and he was so much more interesting when he showed his true colors!

chances are he'll change his mind. if its a good script, a good director, he said he'll do it. i mean... why wouldn't he?

Do you think Cillian could pull off the wolfishness sufficiently to make a convincing vampire? Without a doubt, I think he could easily do it! I don't think he'd have any difficulties in the least handling a part like that and think it's a pretty sure bet he'd deliver a fantastic performance. One thing is for sure, if he ever did decide to star in a vampire movie I'd certainly be first in line at the cinema to see it!

LOL @ betablue & bestshot's posts! Hell yeah he would be one great vampire! He would be one well fed vampire too, women would be offering themselves to him left and right.! lol 2 requests though, leave his sexy eyeballs alone (no stupid contacts) and no Twilight movie! Okay three requests.....Capa haaaaaair. *drools* lol His eyes are extremely sexy bestshot, but he can make them creepy too. Anyone's eyes can be creepy if giving the right expression.

ha ha yeah! They're creepy but SEXY eyes. Hey, everyone here knows what I mean. And I don't care if anyeone doesn't think Jackson Rippner was a good bad guy or not - he's still one hot mo-fo to me. I think he was just having a bad day with Lisa, ha ha. And oh yeah, if he ever does a vampire, he's got to have the Capa style hair. Well, he doesn't have to even be a vampire for that, I would just like him to have that hair again in SOMETHING. Smoking hot!!

I would love to see Cillian play a vampire. An old style classic vampire like Lestat and Louis in Interview. He would look really cool in that style and could easily pull off the vampire mysterious sexyness/scaryness!
