I'll admit, I'm a huge sci-fi dork (even if I don't look it), and the previews for this movie have me intrigued. Peter Jackson is helping to produce it with an unknown director, which really sounds promising. And apparently, the director, Neill Blomkamp, was tapped to direct the Halo movie adaptation, and District 9 does look a little tiny bit like Halo in some ways. What about your thoughts on this?

I just saw the ads for it a while ago and i was really intrigued. It looks like it should be good. First i thought it was an actual documentary- the acting looks good. I will definitely be checking it out.

I just saw this movie and JUST LOVED IT! The movie did such a great job characterizing the aliens and making this so realistic - like the anti-alien blockbuster movie. The filming style was also really great too - it really reinforced the realism in the film. It was almost like a documentary/TV news report. The lead actor was great too. In a strange sort of way, he reminded me of Cillian in 28 Days Later. I hope Sharlto Copley gets more movie offers because he was amazing. And he's pretty cute. All in all, I rate District 9 a solid 9.5/10.

I had the pleasure of seeing District 9 yesterday, and it may well have been one of the best sci-fi movies I have seen. What I appreciated about it was that it made the unbelievable believable - not an easy task, given what they were presenting, but done so effortlessly that we take for granted what we are seeing.
Normally I avoid anything cartoonish like the plague, which means I don't often watch comic-type movies, most sci-fi, etc, because I can't take much cheese. District 9 is in a class of its own and may very well redefine the genre. For once, the action had a purpose, and I cared about the characters very much. That said, it's a very violent movie, so the R-rating is deserved - watch with caution. Anyway - extraordinary sci-fi story, brilliantly layered and realized.

Good to hear that it's so good! That's what caught my interest in the first place -- that it looked 'real'. Also, the overall concept is just interesting. I'll definitely see it soon.

Sorry to double post here, but I just wanted to chime in my agreement. I absolutely loved it! It's morally unsettling and quite heartwrenching. It really made me think. It had a great premise, and I think it was a refreshing spin on the typical alien movies. Danny Boyle gave the zombie genre a different look with 28 Days Later, and Neill Blomkamp did the same here with the alien genre. Wikus was really quite a character. Indeed, I felt sorry for him at times, but most times, I was frustrated with him. LOL. The actor gave a great performance. I also loved the main aliens -- especially the little one.

I really liked it, I'm not that into scifi but I thought it was an interesting story told really well. the documentary style made it seem really real! It is unusual to see a film about aliens where the humans are bad and the aliens themselves are innocent. And I loved that it had a relatively small budget for an action movie--that kept the action/fighting to a minimum (save for the last scene). I have a feeling after that ending that there will soon be a sequel.

I absolutely love this movie. One of my new favorites actually, I'm a huge sci-fi nerd lol.
