Yes, he did terrible, violent things, but he was not in control. Although the obsession with Runt had a huge role in it, it was beyond that. It was an illness deep within Pig that was already a part of him, just waiting to come out. Perhaps I've over-analyzed Pig's character, but I think he is a really complex being, and there was definitely more going on than obsession. The ending was especially painful for me, because he saw no other option besides death, but I wonder if he expected Runt to follow him? I just hated that he had to die. Totally agree with what you've said there Cait. That's what I felt about Pig too - but never thought to put it into those exact words before. I analysed it that way too. And also hated that he had to die too. Watching that ending led to me feeling depressed for a good while after the movie ended. It really did leave a bitter taste in your mouth. One thing I personally did always wonder was which motives led to Runt giving herself to him just before that point. Throughout the film, I was never sure that she felt anything more for him other than a brother-sister bond . And even that was being greatly strained as she started to gain more and more insight into just how unstable he was. Then suddenly towards the end her attitude just changes. I could never decide whether that was a moment when she realised for the first time she'd been in love with him all along. Or else whether she just did it out of pity to give him one last good experience, knowing she was the one person in the world that he loved/trusted/had any kind of real bond with - before his final moments. Either way though, it was very sad to watch.

Oh you seriously don't no how much i am dying to see this film. I have ordered it off ebay and should hopefully have it by the end of next week. From all that i have read of it and the thoughts that you glorious people have written about it makes me even more eager to see it. I also read somewhere that Disco Pigs was actually a stage play with Cillian playing Pig in that, then it was adapted into a movie which the producers or directors etc couldn't think of anyone more perfect for the role than Cillian. Oh our boy is so talented doesn't it just make you tingle with pride for him

Maybe i just don't released that, but i have to ask... Why Pig died? He was agreed with that, right? He wanted it? But why and Runt wanted it, why she do this... I can't rationalize that moment. They were so happy together. What about Runt, she don't loved him or what?

^The way I see the ending I think Runt realized Pig was dangerous, she couldn't even look at a guy or do anything that didn't involve Pig...

I watched this film for the first time last night and would just like to echo sentiments throughout this topic - i loved it!
I am a great fan of independent films and this has raced to the top of my list as one of my favourites. It was such a beautiful film. The relationship between Pig and Runt was heartbreaking. And the ending was both inevitable and very befitting.
Great performances all round. 90 minutes very well spent.

Sigh? I think it is more of a "role-around-in-circles-sobbing" type thing for me! Okay, not that desperate, but I just love everything about this movie/play. I don't think I have cried that much during a movie ever in my life. Knowing how much they've been through and then...I don't know. Cillian did such an amazing job of this, his performance added so much to it as well.

This is one of the first Cillian movies I watched, there wasn't much available when 28 Days Later came out so I bought this one. I recently watched it again and I found it extremely disturbing. Not the most disturbing movie he has ever done, that's Peac*ck without any doubt!!! Yet it's disturbing. I found it very very hard to understand, as English is not my first language and there we no English subtitles on my DVD. I can assure you it's extremely hard to follow. After a while you get the sound of it and you understand a bit more, but even after 25 years of learning English I found it tricky to understand. Anyway, I don't think Pig is a villain. Just a very troubled child. He needs serious help, professional help....the movie is a kind of twisted fairytale, I loved the ending, though it made me cry like a baby.
