Ok so here's a thread to post your top 5-10 movies of 2009(having been released in this year!)
I have an odd number of 8!
1. Let the Right One In -Just a classic. I love it so much. And those two kids- especially Oskar- were brilliant.
2. Che Part 1 & 2- Beautifully crafted and acted.
3. 500 Days of Summer- Joseph and Zooey in quirky romantic comedy = Perfection!
4. The Boat that Rocked- Full of fun!
5. Slumdog Millionaire- Feel good movie of the year!
6. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
7. Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (i know a lot of people who haven't read the books didn't really like the film but i loved it and being a huge fan of the books i thought they did a great job)
8.Public Enemies

I've seen a lot of movies this year, but I didn't see that many new movies, but here you go. Only came up with 6. I'll add to it when I see more movies. 2009 isn't over yet, and there's so many good movies coming out for the holiday! 1. Let the Right One In - I didn't think it was 'new', but since you listed it, I'm going to, too. It's definitely one of my favorite movies ever. The two kids were superb. 2. Inglorious Basterds - Brilliant Tarantino movie! 3. District 9 - It brought realism to the alien sci-fi genre. 4. 500 Days of Summer - One of the best movies I saw this summer! What a gem of a movie. I loved Joseph and Zooey together. 5. Orphan - I was skeptical about this one, but it turned out much better than I'd expected. What a twist. 6. The Hangover - One of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. ;D

I've only been lucky enough to see three movies in the theater so far this year, but they were all brilliant.
1- Moon - Sam Rockwell NEEDS to win an award for this. He was completely outstanding in this role.
2- Public Enemies - Didn't get the attention it deserved, in my opinion. Depp's Dillinger was a huge leap forward for him in maturing as an actor, and the movie itself was gripping and breathtaking. My heart was pounding during the last five minutes... even though we all know how things are going to end.
3- District 9 - Biggest surprise for me out of the three; brought a completely palatable realism to a very outlandish story. I only would hope that they won't run it into the ground with "District 10" and "District 11"... etc, but knowing how the Hollywood machine works, I won't get my wish that they let this gem stand alone as unique as it is.
I also saw Let the Right One In, and enjoyed it very much, though I think I would have enjoyed it even more than I did had I not watched the English-dubbed version. I loved the engaging yet disturbing story of a love that transcends love, gender, all the earthly trappings. Creepy, quietly beautiful film.

Moon was one of my favourites as well. You could imagine Cillian playing the part, it was a little bit Sunshine-y. Sam Rockwell was outstanding though, although some of the logic of the plot was a little fuzzy.
Haven't seen Let the right one in, and hadn't heard of it before seeing it mentioned on these boards. Sounds interesting, will look out for the dvd.

I haven't seen all that many new movies this year - so unfortunately can't list as many as five. But some that I did see and really liked are: 1) Coraline - loved the story and the animation! 2) Star Trek XI - I enjoyed this much more than I anticipated I would! 3) Terminator Salvation - Ditto to above! Many thanks Rukia by the way for posting your thoughts on the Orphan I've been very curious about that one for some time! Same to you Kim for posting yours on the new Harry Potter fim. I should be getting the chance to see that one over the Xmas break! I'm very much looking forward to it ;D

Pisces, it's too bad you had to see the dubbed version! It's a bit cheesier dubbed. It's so much more beautiful in the original language, but I'm glad you liked it as well. I like Sam Rockwell, too, but I was iffy about Moon for some reason. I'll check it out when I can definitely. Sabine, you MUST check out LTROI!! It's such a great movie, and so much more than a vampire movie! Emma, I was hesitant about Orphan. It looked totally contrived and cheesy and like any other 'evil child' movie. I wouldn't have watched it if my sister hadn't recommended it. It's pretty good. Check it out!

Hey Suzanne nice to see a long standing member still posting. Have to say i haven't got round to seeing any of the films you listed. I really want to see The Hurtlocker and The Hangover. Not so pushed on Orphan, i'm not really a horror fan. Especially when they consist of creepy little children and stuff like that. 28 Days Later, 40 Days of Night, I Am Legend, Daybreakers- things like that consisting of Vampires, Zombies and stuff are ok. I don't find them particularly scary, actually i love Vampires- Anne Rice's books being my favourite, i love her lavish writing and luscious characters.
