The non-essential part:
It has taken me a long time to come back to this. Sorry about that. The whole process was weird. The seller wouldn't answer any questions about it and all his fellow workers kept telling my boyfriend he's crazy and not to be trusted. That he might not have it and could be pulling a prank just for fun... But on the last day of the project he really did bring it. I soon understood why he did so on the last day. My boyfriend tried to play it at the hotel with his laptop, but it froze on the main menu. I tried to play it with ps3 when he got home and the same thing happened. Then I tried with my dvd player and the same thing again. I gave up hope. Then, a few weeks ago, when the first snow came, I went to prepare the country house for the winter. I have a very old and reliable dvd-player there. It plays all the scratched ones too. In fact, I can't remember a single dvd or cd it hasn't played. I put it in and it froze on the menu again, but started playing with the resume button. I was so happy.
The essential part:
No Spoilers. The film itself was ok. Not great, but not bad either. A film about improbable friendship, in which I'm sad to say Brendan Gleeson didn't do as good of a performance as we've gotten used to getting from him, I think. I really like him. He's one of my favorites, but I think he did a bit overact this one. In my opinion the best performance in the film was delivered by Liam Cunningham, though his character was somewhat cartoonish. Cillian's role was too impersonal to get much out of. I had always thought that the scene in youtube is his only scene in it, but I think he's got more screentime than in The Dark Knight. Definitely does if you count the scenes where he doesn't say anything or just appears in the background. The film kept me interested till the end, but wasn't a masterpiece. It had a charming atmosphere, though it was quite gloomy. To me gloomy isn't a negative thing. Bland is, and I don't think this was bland, so my overall feeling about this is positive.
So... yeah, I think I may have a disfunctional pirated copy of this? I can't imagine an original having such problems playing...(no scratches) Though I can't understand why someone would make one of such a small film? Surely not because it's rare and then sell it with such a cheap price(8€)... The cover looks real. Exactly like this one: ...I don't know. The fangirl in me is happy that I've finally seen it. The collector in me is NOT happy, because I don't have a fully functional copy. Who else has it or has seen it?
