It works for me when I choose Newstalk TV option from the listen live-pop up. I don't know if Cillian's part in it has gone already... If it has, I'm sure there will be a listen back-option Edit: Yay! ;D He hasn't been on it yet. I didn't miss it! Stupid technical problems...

Is it the connection or do he sound a bit raspy? I remember another interview talking about him having a cold on the way...
I hope he gets better!
But *sigh* I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing him talk and how passionate he is about his workd
and his laugh *melts*

I know what you mean Megan it's almost like his answers are scripted. I would rather like for him to be random and say things like jeepers and talk about baked goods

Thanks for posting the notice and the listen back link! I certainly got the impression that Cillian is open to the idea of more performances of this play, in New York or elsewhere. Hopefully those of you who missed it the first time may get a chance to see it in the near future

Darn I missed it! Thanks for posting the listen back link, Disarm, I'll have to remember to listen to it! Megan - I know what you mean, too. I don't think Cillian likes interviews at all, in fact he's said as much, so he's just not enthusiastic in them. Although I've noticed that he's a bit more enthusastic in some than in others. Sometimes I do wish he'd open up a bit more, but I guess that's his choice. He really should say "Jeepers!" more, too.

LOL - Cillian is famously dull in interviews. I hate to say this, but a lot of times I don't even read or listen to them, because I already know what he's going to say. Now, don't get me wrong - it doesn't impact my admiration for him as an artist one iota, and I also have an understanding of why he interacts with interviewers that way. He's uncomfortable with the process to start with, and never made much of an attempt to become accustomed to it; plus he's more determined to protect his privacy than any artist I have ever seen. BUT. Man, oh man, I wish he would open up just once. Someone pour some Guinness into him and sit him down with a nice girl with a camera, and maybe he would relax. I think the real problem lies not with the fact that Cillian wants to protect his family (perfectly possible to give a fantastic interview without even mentioning them) but the fact that Cillian doesn't want the world to know who he IS. Not even the merest glimpse. And I can't help but feel that that's a shame, because I'd bet my house that he's a pretty interesting guy. I know I keep bringing him up, but Ville Valo is a great example of an artist who knows how to give a great, thought-provoking interview without telling you every minute detail of his life. He's not afraid to give an opinion, to ramble, to laugh at himself. And interviews like his are a huge part of his lore - why his fans are so enamored of him. Here's half of a really good interview he did a few years ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3sjwsJ8KWQ&feature=relatedThe interviewer's first question pretty much nails it. And it's one I'd like to see Cillian answer. LOL. Anyway, I'm not knocking on Cillian for not being Valo, lol. I just wish he would show us a little of the man that IS the artist that we know so well from his work. *sigh* Part 2 is even better, lol: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfxEd1c207s&feature=related

Pisces and Megan, you have both made some extremely interesting and IMO, somewhat alarming points. Part of an actor's job is to promote the work, no matter how distasteful he or she may find that particular part of the job description. It's in the interest of everyone who worked to make the film, particularly the director. Now, just imagine that you are a film director of Cillian's, and you stumbled upon this site, only to read that even his most ardent fans are tuning out his promotional interviews, largely due to his demeanor. If he is having that sort of effect on his most forgiving fan base, just imagine how the general public must feel when they see or hear his interviews. The crossed arms, unsmiling visage and obvious annoyance with the entire process is not serving either him or the projects he wishes to promote very well, just IMO.
If I was a film director trying to promote a project, I would suggest that the actors ACT like they enjoy the interviews and the audience members. People WANT to like him and engage with him, but he really seems to shut down. And if he is doing so to protect his privacy, may I just suggest that you can't have it both ways, really. You can't control fame and turn it on and off like a water faucet. If you choose to pursue the acting profession, which requires you to sell yourself and convince large numbers of people to buy into you as a person and performer, then IMO, you have accepted all that goes along with it, good or bad. You can't demand privacy, then mention your family in interviews. He even mentioned his two children on a recent radio show, correcting the name of one of them to the interviewer. So again, how is that NOT talking about your private life? I also think he could also learn to laugh off the comments about his looks (especially his eyes), which according to every director he's worked with, played a large part in securing roles for him, as they do for ALL actors. Again, it's part of the business and everyone knows it, so trying to pretend that it isn't is disingenuous.
Sorry for the mini-rant, I love Cillian's work as much as we all do, but this is one aspect of his personality that I find a bit contradictory and hypocritical. I WANT to read his interviews and enjoy them and HIM, but his sullen persona is a bit off putting. I agree with Megan, he could elaborate on many other things without delving into anything personal. His interviews during the Inception promotional tour are good examples of that.
Regarding the interview and promotional process, I just feel that at this stage in his career, he could take some advice from Jackson Rippner...."Well, suck it up!"

Well, I agree with a lot of what you said, Cougarlady. But in Cillian's defense, a lot of the blame for the boring interviews can be placed squarely on the interviewer or whoever wrote the online article. Because it's their job to introduce the interviewee to the reader beforehand, and it's often very apparent that this person knew next to nothing about Cillian and got their facts about his personal life straight from the IMDb. How many times can we hear about Sons of Mr Greengenes? Or that he skipped out on a career in law to pursue acting? Or, yes, that he hung with transvestites while filming BOP? For a long-time fan, this stuff gets very repetitive. I'd love to hear something NEW about Cillian. I will say, however, that Cillian makes a case for the fact that you CAN have it both ways - it is in fact possible to be a respected and successful actor and yet maintain privacy... because he's doing it. LOL. Yes, he could be more open (and his fans hunger for that), and he could be much more famous than he is. But he has apparently made the choice (and I do think it's a choice) to NOT be that famous. He's done a fairly admirable job of controlling that faucet of fame. LOL. Just goes to show how far sheer talent alone will take you! Besides, the more of yourself you put out there as a celeb, even a minor one, the more you fuel the random weirdos who think they know you and have a connection with you. And that stuff is just plain scary. So I can understand the motivation in him zipping his lips. Anyway, I think Cillian's fans just grow to accept this about him. Just as we accept that most of his work won't play in theaters, or that we'll never see his face plastered all over TMZ or People magazine (and thank god for that one!). Part of being a Cillian fan means understanding that his interviews are somewhat bland. LOL. I can deal with that. He doesn't need to go changing on my account. So, like Cillian, I want it both ways. I want him to have his privacy and be happy... yet I'd love to see one... just ONE... damned good interview with him. And if his directors or future directors are reading.... don't worry. I'll see just about anything he does. Even if he doesn't promote it.
