That's EXACTLY what I thought when I was watching Batman Begins (not only because of Cillian Murphy, but also because I'm a huge Chris Nolan fan) Crane and Rippner are both villains yes, but in a totally different way.
I 'm so glad you had the same thoughts like me ! What I also noticed: Whenever Crane takes off his glasses it's like there is something missing in his face.... Don't know... How can I describe....? As if Crane is that sort of typical spectacle wearer that looks odd if he takes off the glasses. As if those classes were really a part of his face. Can you fallow me? XD

Hmm, I agree that glasses look sooo sexy on him. And your right, it's funny that as Crane you are used to him wearing glasses and it looks odd when he's without, but in his other movies you don't even notice. I guess it's because Cillian's whole appearance changes with his movies. He never looks quiet the same (but always hot, though :D)

Hmm, it wasn't really a movie that hooked me. Well, we watched "The wind that shook the barley" and I noticed him but wasn't suddenly infected (strange, I know) Later, I had written a short story on a German website (it wasn't too good, but I still like the core idea) and was looking for a picture for the male protagonist and I found a picture of him in Sunshine...and yeah, from then on it wouldn't let go of me. I started to rent/buy a lot of his movies and you can imagine how the story went on.

For me it was Breakfast on Pluto.
The first 2 times I watched it I wasn't that interested in Cillian as much as I was interested in the movie but eventually I started doing a little research about the movie and I started watching movies Cillian was in and realized I had already watched Tron, The Wind That Shakes The Barley and Sunshine and I watched a few videos with him on youtube and I just fell head over heels for him after that. So I'd give BoP credit for it!

On The Edge for me.
I didn't even really know who Cillian was before i watched it (despite 28 Days Later... being one of my favourite Danny Boyle films) but there was just something about him that made me sit up and take notice in this. His expression, his acting skill, his complete devotion to the character. He was just fabulous. A truly wonderful performance (and a bloody good film to boot).
Add to that his stunning eyes, his feminine good looks, his gorgeous Irish brogue and his endearing slight awkwardness. I was so desperate to see more of him.
And the following night i watched Perrier's Bounty and, well, here i am ;D

Woo! I saw Breakfast On Pluto ages ago when it first got shown on TV. All I could think was what an amazing character and the boy's face was like a Michelangelo painting or something.
Then a year, less or so later I was randomly watching Red Eye and thought, hmmmm, cute... must Google. Then I couldn't believe it was the same actor! That BLEW me away! He is the most interesting actor I have ever seen! I love how he's so normal and unassuming too! Pure brilliance!

For me it was 28 Days Later when it opened in Italy back in 2003. I remember I thought "look, the kid from How Harry Became a Tree". I had seen Harry at the Venice Film Festival and I really loved that movie, I think I owned one of the few Italian copies of the DVD. Anyway, I'm a horror fan and I was impressed by Danny Boyle's film and its implications. Moreover, I don't usually even notice younger actors, but the was something about Cillian I really liked...beyond his good looks, definitely beyond that. I was glad to see him movies during the years and I think I was one of the few who was definitely expecting a lot from Red Eye...I remember I dragged my friend along telling her "believe me, you won't regret it", ha ha ha. And he was one of my reasons to watch Batman Begins of course. The other ones being Nolan (huge fan since Memento) and Bale. Quite a stellar trio. I think Scarecrow was the most frightening villain I had ever seen...a simple concept, but Nolan is pure genius and Cill, well he' Cill and he knows his trade! The contrast between his angelic good looks (he looked way too young to be a doctor, let alone the director of an asylum) and the sudden mad look. To me Crane was not missing something on hos face, to me Crane was too much. Too handsome, too young, too intense. That's the reason why he was so scary to me. And eerily sexy of course, in a very very creepy way.

For me it was The Edge of Love, he shows all the row emotions of a complex character, going from seductive, romantic, possesive, aesceptical fo finally ending quite a bit out of his mind. But the end is moving, I particularily love the clip in wich finally he aproach to his son and experiment the sweetness of fatherhood.

I firts saw him in Batman Begins, which I watched mainly because Christian Bale and i clearly remember thinking: "Wow. The Scarecrow sure has a pretty face and a sexy voice." I kept thinking about him so I decided to wtch a couple more movies with him. The firts one I wached was 28 Days later. I didn't like the movie much and I still wasn't sure if he's damn hot or damn creepy. I decided that I really like him when I watched Sunshine. And I've been hooked on him ever since.

The first movie where I really noticed Cillian, was Breakfast on Pluto, 2 years ago. From the very first moment I was all like "huh, who IS that guy, what is this movie? But aww, such a cute lad - and wait; a very brave and talented actor too..!" So I was very impressed already back then...
BUT.
The _fatally addictive_ movie was the Red Eye, which I watched only a few weeks ago. (Yeah, old movie but I hadn't seen it yet!) And --- *W-O-W-E-E-E!!!* --- There I was, all hooked.... And there I still am... Gone for good. ♥
