Oh no, trust me, every Irish person i know who has seen the movie comments on how awful it is. It's completely over the top and just so wrong at times! I suppose it wouldn't be as obvious to people who aren't Irish though.

Edit: While I appreciate I'm taking the risk of appearing patronising - and apologise to all in advance if I do - by posting the below, from the forum posting rules thread, I felt it was an appropriate time to do so: Posts should be made in a respectful manner towards other members and site staff at all times. It's fine to disagree with others, but do so in a positive constructive manner..@ Razz Totally appreciating you've got the right to your opinion. And I'm totally sure there a number of others out there who share it! But I'm afraid I don't. Maybe we should just agree to differ?

only seen half of this movie and I thought jim's character was hilarious. his facial expression and him practically inhaling coffee grounds were just too funny.
also have no say about the whole accent thing. But I'm american so I wouldnt know the difference. I didnt even know I had an accent until I went to London back in'99 and some guy asked me if I was from Chicago because I had that accent. I live a couple hours away. Maybe it's because I was always around Italians...who knows

Emma, i was never trying to force my opinion on anyone else or expecting everyone to agree with me. I simply pointed out that other Irish people who watched the movie would be quite likely to find it annoying, as it's obvious to a native- especially one who lives near Dublin and spends a lot of time there- that the accent isn't real. As an Irish person i always find it annoying when the Irish accent is done badly in movies, and i know my family and friends feel the same. I wasn't trying to provoke a reaction from people who disagree or anything. And i'm perfectly happy to agree on a difference of opinions. Disarm i did find Jim funny too, he is a good actor.

As an Irish person i always find it annoying when the Irish accent is done badly in movies, and i know my family and friends feel the same. I wasn't trying to provoke a reaction from people who disagree or anything. Honestly not meaning this disrespectfully Razz. But I'm not referring to your first post on that. I'm referring to the second one you made on this thread page. You might want to re-read it below: Oh no, trust me, every Irish person i know who has seen the movie comments on how awful it is. It's completely over the top and just so wrong at times! I suppose it wouldn't be as obvious to people who aren't Irish though. That was a direct response of yours to my own previously expressed difference of opinion as here: This is only my opinion of course. But I personally thought Jim Broadbent did a good Irish accent. Admittedly I'm not Irish born, but I have listened to genuine Irish accents being spoken before -and honestly didn't notice anything that stood out as being wrong with it. Maybe it wasn't quite as strong sounding as with some of the other actors. But I still thought it was done pretty well. In fact I found myself completely forgetting Jim was English throughout the whole of the film because of how convincing I found it - including scene's in which he was directly exchanging dialogue with Cillian - and found his whole character performance to be one of the best things about the movie! I honestly don't mean this as any kind of personal attack, and hope it doesn't come across that way. But as one of the other moderators here I feel in this instance it's important to stress that any post expressed in that kind of manner - under the same circumstances as happened on this occasion - openly goes against the site posting rule I quoted above. Please in future could such posts be edited, or omitted, to comply with it? That way, thread discussions can be kept on a positive and constructive note, and everyone can benefit more from the forums more as a result! I'd also like to stress here - as a general note - that I'm honestly not saying members aren't allowed to express disagreements or less than positive opinion's about anything in discussions if that's what they feel. That's absolutely fine! Everyone has the equal right on here to do that should they want to. Just pointing out, bearing in mind the posting guideline's everyone on here is expected to stick to, care really does need to be taken with with the way such comments are expressed towards others. Anyways that's my lecture done and dusted! ;D If anyone here is unhappy with anything I've said on this, you're welcome to pm me on it. I'm more than happy to talk things out on a civil note and hopefully reach a mutual understanding - if that's the case. But considering that I've probably taken this topic a fair bit off track by now feel it's best at this point I bring it back on subject: At the least I'm sure one thing most of us (at least so far!) agree on is that indeed Jim Broadbent was very entertaining. Thought that the whole way both he and Cillian portrayed the whole father and son relationship - in terms of comedy value - was very well done and that their performances complemented each others very well. For me it was a great experience to see them working together. As I'd also seen Jim B in a few movies before and had really enjoyed every character performance of his I'd seen.

*spoiler* My copy comes later this week but I was very lucky that my local video store had this movie to rent, so I finally watched the whole movie last night. The death of Michael's father was heartbreaking but I seen that coming at the very beginning. I seriously thought this movie was very funny, and my sister thought so too. Her throat ended up hurting from laughing so much, especially from parts like this Jim: so will you get me some coke now Michael: Jesus Christ all right! Jim: YeaH!!!!! Jims face, hahaha! I also thought the ending was cute between Brenda & Michael. Their little talk during the eulogy

lol. I really found those moments between Michael and his dad funny too :-) You can tell that Jim irritates the heck out of Michael at times, yet it's obvious Michael does care about him, though he's reluctant to show it. It really added to the comedy effect. Very well done I thought!

Ugh, I still haven't gotten to see this movie yet! So annoying, plus it's really inconvenient that none of the stores around here have it in stock. At least none I have seen. Whatever hopefully getting it from Amazon soon!

Did a quick check at the Target website, just for giggles (my niece is a longtime employee of Target, and she gets no end of a kick out of the fact that someone in Purchasing must be a huge Cillian fan: the Bullseye has picked up all sorts of his films over the past few years, including-- along with standard stock such as Red Eye and 28 Days Later-- Breakfast on Pluto, The Wind That Shakes the Barley, and Peaco[ck]), and it's listed for online purchase only. I'm thinking maybe that has something to do with the fact that Perrier's doesn't carry an MPAA rating. Unrated titles could be moderately innocuous-- like Perrier's, where the rating would hinge on swearing and straightforward violence-- or pretty darn raw-- like Showgirls, say-- and big-box retailers do like to know how to classify their movies and music, lest they incur the wrath of Mom and Dad or anyone else of Dainty Sensibilities....
That said, I will say it was very interesting to re-watch Perrier's Bounty on DVD with the subtitles turned on. The titles are well-done (the titlers obviously had direct access to the script, and weren't just faking their way through phonetically), and I will admit that I couldn't quite suss out all the dialogue when I saw the film on the big screen. A treat, picking up the subtleties...!

I do have this movie now. I got to watch it over a week ago and I really liked it despite some of the negative reviews I heard about it. Cillian was as great as I expected hi to be but I thought the movie itself was pretty good too. I'm glad it's in my collection now! Can't wait to get Inception! ;D

You know in movies when they show pictures of characters when they were young, they sometime will use real pictures of the actor playing the part. I always wondered about those pictures at the end of the movie when Michael visits his mom and looks thru the window. They could be real pictures of Cillian when he was a child.

I finally caught this movie last night on one of the Starz channels and those pics at the end, the first thing I did was try to get a better glimpse and wonder that exact same thing. It also reminded me of the baby pic in 28DL. How funny. Anyway, I have to watch this movie when I'm less tired but from what I saw I enjoyed it. Cillian is great when he's freaking out and/or sarcastic! It was nice to see all of the usual suspects in the cast as well.
