I was quite surprised at how good this film was. Not that I thought it was going to be bad, but I was skeptical of the adaptation from novel to film. Reese was rather good in the role as Becky Sharp. And man something about those Irish men...such rogues, they are! Gabriel Byrne and Jonathan Rhys Meyers were such wicked nasty men but damn are they ever gorgeous! ;D

I enjoyed it too. Loved Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Bend It Like Beckham and he was nice to watch here too. As for Gabriel Byrne, I'm a fan from way back. I watched him read from his autobiography in a Dublin bookstore years ago and stood in line to get my copy signed afterwards. He was so nice - and those eyes. Ahhh. I thought I was going to melt.
I shouldn't neglect Reese Witherspoon - great performance.

I haven't seen the film yet ..but talking of Vanity Fair ..I think it's about time they did a feature on a bunch of Irish actors who are making waves at the moment ...what a shoot that would be!

Funny you should mention that...because the most recent Harpers & Queen, the Cillian article that I posted on C-M, is actually a compillation article on Irish "leading men". Additional article includes Ronan Keating; director, Jim Sheridan; author, Phillip Treacy; actor, James Nesbitt. Sorry, no Gabriel Byrne or J-Rhys Meyers.

Bizarre, bring on the Irish! The ladies are doing their thing too, Elaine Cassidy I think is starring in a film about Phil Lynott! Thin Lizzy Rule!
