Its not always about problems, it can be about strict release schedules, i.e. they have this, this, this and this to release in 2012, in 2013 they have this, this and this to release. They sometimes do have schedules such as that. I've heard of films taking that long for release before. It's just the way it rolls sometimes but fingers crossed. www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfilms/about/They only have two upcoming releases thusfar. They don't have an awful lot of films that they release. It's basically just a spin off from BBC TV. I Fingers still crossed though.

Ohhh we might buy distributions rights for Italy (I work for a small distributor who's trying to make it big in Italy).....I'll start to tell my colleagues about it. Today we acquired our first theatrical feature and it's a pretty good catch. No Cillian, but we have Liam (Neeson of course). Who knows....

Alisa, you are amazing at finding Cillian news - what would we do without you?? I didn't at all expect to hear anything about this film for a while - can't wait to hear what the Cannes reaction to it will be. Hmmm... since Cillian will be occupied with Misterman during May, I guess we have to assume that he won't be attending Cannes.. Drat.

I'm hoping for much earlier release too, but don't dare to get my hopes up for this year... Maybe early 2013? The article I tried to post, which is now only for subscribers, had a comment about the film from Charles Tesson, who debuts this year as the head of Cannes' parallel section devoted to first- and second-time films: “It’s a striking film for a first feature with an excellent mise en scene." I think that's the first comment I've read from someone who hasn't worked for the film or it's promotion...? Anyway, it sounds good. The French info site of the critics week had the running time: 1h 30min. @leyla: have you noticed the international sales agent's(Wild Bunch) site has some sort of promo video available(for distributors?), www.wildbunch.biz/films/broken it requires registration and company info, and the registration must be validated by Wild Bunch. I hope it becomes available for the public soon.

I don't think he'll be there, unless he manages to clone himself or develop a superpower that allows him to fly at the speed of light, since he has two Misterman-performances scheduled for the day. I'd vote for cloning. *continues wave*

Thanks for the link, I'll talk to my colleagues to see if maybe we are truly interested in buying rights for Italy...

Thanks for the news! But it's true that there might be a long gap since being premiered on a festival such as Cannes and the real release date. Cillian plays a teacher, doesn't he?

There is a lot of conflicting information about the release date. I've read 2014. I've seen 2014. I've heard 2014. I've also heard 2013 and then Cillian said in an interview that he 'thinks' it will be 'out this year'.
It's just not wholly unusual for a small film company to shoot massively in advance and this was made by BBC Films as a wholly low budget flick.
Yes, he plays a teacher.

I did my homework and I raved about the movie with our boss, I sent him the links. I think they will talk about it in Cannes, they're going there for the market. We're small, but we have big dreams and who knows... I think Broken could be in our league. And yes he plays a teacher. Having read the novel, he can only play the teacher, who's one of the most adorable characters ever written, he's got "utterly cute romantic hero" written on his forehead :-D

Some stills from the film...oh,my, what's been done to your lovely face, Cillian? (maybe they've posted already...) www.semainedelacritique.com/EN/films/2012/2012_spe_broken.phpUltimately, in all Cillian movies I've recently seen he is bleeding profusely (red lights) or dying (retreat). Please, Cillian stop dying in your films. It makes me sad. Leyla, your work seems amazing¡ what do you do exactly in the film industry? I hope your bosses considere the chance of distributing Broken.

No real spoilers, but *that* was a tough scene to read, even in the novel It's an amazing novel, and if they did it any justice (since the screenwriter is Mark O’Rowe I have great hopes) it's going to be a great movie. I manage logistics and customer care for a videogames and film distributor. We're quite big in Europe, but still small in Italy, we're acquiring our first theatrical releases, our first "baby" will be out in Italian cinemas at the end of 2012. Ah, big dreams. My boss says they already have a meeting with Wild Bunch...
