That tidbit... I just melted imagining Cillian with that look in his eyes! I can not possibly wait to actually see that...

Definetely is going to be a challenge for him to perform that role, I guess that it's totally oposite to what he intrinsically is...he never had played any similar before (well, apart from that rascal type of Sunburn) so it's a dream to see him as a seducer. A real dream, si, señor!

I love when Cillian "transforms" to someone totally different in a role. That's that magic moment when you don't see Cillian anymore, but only the character he plays. Shamrocks I can give you the link -- if you want to refresh your German LOL Because I was searching for the story in its original language, German.

Oh dear, I wonder how can he pull it off Must be extremely difficult ;D ;D ;D Well, as he managed to be way way waaaay sexier than the supposedly "bad boy sexy poet" in Edge of Love. I mean, how come the sexy one is the husband we're not supposed to think the husband is sexy! Poet, what poet? Was there a bad boy poet in Edge of Love? Can't remember.... OK, I don't think the charm is a problem lately - as in the last 3-4 years - he has evolved from "very cute, looks so young" to "when and how did he manage to become so fricking hot?" Apart from joking, since he's the best of his generation, he can become whatever he decides to become. If he wants to look mousy, or unnoticeable, or unattractive, he will look just like that. On the other side of the spectrum, if he has to look smashing prepare for full warfare It's not just his looks, it's the voice, the posture, he's a chameleon, a truly terrific actor and he's going to be amazing in this movie

Oh dear, I wonder how can he pull it off Must be extremely difficult ;D ;D ;D LMAO!!!!! yes, how will he ever manage?? ;D It's a good thing they've cast him, because in someone else's hands, this role could be a disaster. Cillian is one of the few who would be able to pull off this sort of hot-yet-cold character. I'm most interested in what genre this film is intended to be. I think it would be harder to sell as a romance than as a twisted sort of film noir. They may try to combine the two perhaps, and that would be a very fine line to walk. IMO though, going with a melodramatic romance angle would be a mistake. It's a sad story, but not for the usual reasons.

Every bit of what you said. Oh yes Pisces, I agree. A romantic approach would be a bad choice (I read the story yesterday !!! YAY!) No no please no!! No sweet, gooey, kitchy romantic movie... As much as I love romantic, but not for this story please. Film noir, as you said, would be a much better approach to the original story. Which is indeed a harsh story! Really difficult to tell if it is love or obsession the woman is feeling. It's a bitter sweet story. And I really loved the writing. The descriptions of R. are intriguing.... But to be honest, I don't see him that much as a heartless guy. He treats the women so sweet... OMG I'm falling for him already LOL The women involved with him probably know what kind of man he is and therefore don't expect much from the beginning. He's just a dandy. If he actually breaks hearts (despite the one of the woman in the letter ) isn't really revealed. And we do not witness him being cruel to women or treating them as objects. But maybe I have to think it over yet. It's at least the first impression I got, the first "feeling" so to say. To me, his tenderness was more prominent as his heartlessness. He just loves and enjoys all women! I'm really interested in the way they will transport this into a modern story.

Yep, Zombie - if this is intended as a gooey love story, I don't think it will work at all. I've now watched the 1948 film, and that one is pretty much a melodramatic romance. But that was a completely different era, and the original film was set in 1900, which dates things even further back. A woman in that time period would likely have never heard of things like fan to celeb obsession, and I can see how she would mistake her intense feelings for love. But to convince a modern audience that a contemporary character is in love rather than unhealthily obsessed would be a very tall order indeed. They could make this VERY good though, by taking a hard look at a "Number One Fan" dynamic and how it affects (or doesn't affect) each party in the equation. There's a lot they could do with this to make it unforgettable, poignant, chilling, disturbing, and maybe even a little bittersweet. They just have to be careful not to treat this as some sort of love story. Because that it AIN'T.

I'm thrilled that he has confirmed that he's actually in it! IMDb needs to get on the ball. Wow. The idea of him being a rock star in a movie is only starting to sink in. Again, I'm wondering what sort of look they will have for him. I was thinking loads of tattoos up those sinewy arms, longish hair wild around his face, cigarette dangling from his lips... sort of channeling Ville Valo maybe (I know, I know... I bring him up a lot but I think he's incredible). This is too f*cking good to be true.

Pisces: I gave you a CB for all your informative posts on this thread. Thank you! A rock star... YAY! ;D I was so afraid it would be a pop star. Would have preferred an author over that. I'm so relieved. I wonder who will be making the music for the film? I'm assuming Cillian's character will be the songwriter for the band. Songwriter needs an instrument... I've been wanting to see him play a guitar for so long! If he would be something like Ville Valo, like Pisces envisioned, he would have no instrument on stage. In that case I'd hope there were some songwriting scenes for me. Pretty please... It seems likely, since the letter has an impact on him, if I understood correctly. It would naturally lead to inspiration, right? If someone finds and reads the script, I want to know if his character plays a guitar.

longish hair wild around his face, cigarette dangling from his lips... YES, please! That would be perfect! I need to get my hands on this story very soon. I love the sound of his character so far, especially the seducing part. Guys, my day has just become *very bright* Q. Will you be singing in that one? Cillian Murphy: I think so, yeah. Woohoo! ;D I do love it when he sings. I hope he sings a lot in this one. UNF, I can't wait!
