He said it's a French movie. Anyway, "romance" is pretty general. Not all romance is sappy and over sugary, just the badly written one. Letter from an Unknown Woman is - in a way - a romance. It talks about love, in its own twisted way. It's more like an obsession than love, but love comes in endless sizes and shapes I agree I would describe it a psychological drama, rather than a romance, but I guess it depends on the angle. One of my favorite "romance" movies of all time is Secretary..........probably people wouldn't define it as a romance at all but way more than Letter, I'd say!!! As of now, I don't care about the angle they choose, I only hope the script is good. The source material is promising, hope it's up to it.

Exactly! I've read the novel and I would no qualifiy it as "romance" but rather the story of a fixation or fascination for someone famous while he has no idea at all of what's crossing the woman's mind. I hadn't seen romance at all on the original novel. What worries me is that 2 productions on the same subject be listed at imdb, being the german one which even show a production company an even a release date. I remember Cillian mentioning it would be a "french production", so the release of the film might me a limited one within Europe. That worries me even more. I wish we could have further news about the movie..

I hope the German version doesn't come out first - it might though, because it appears to have been in pre-production a little longer. It was announced two months before the French version. I also noticed that the director of the German film - Matt Zemlin - is starring in that one. Interesting!

What? TWO movie versions of this short story in developement ?? This is indeed very confusing... But I assume it will be two totally different movies in the end, for the French one with Cillian takes a modern approach to the story. And I don't think (I don't HOPE) the German version realizes this project with the same idea!! We should hope that the German version will be kind of old fashioned period movie, and if the French movie will be realized after the German one, it will overshadow it because it's more innovative and original, or something like this ... Yeah, Leyla, romance could be a very elasting term for different kind of stories/movies. A romance can also be something very tragic and hurtful... Although it does sound a bit inappropriate for a movie with a rockstar. LOL Hey, I love "Sectretary" btw...

Because it would be completely one-sided; the romance exists only in the mind of the woman. That's not to say that they should exclude her emotions from the story - they really can't do that because her intense feelings for him are what drive the entire plot. But a typical romance is something that develops between two people, and that's not what's going on in this story. It's a great machine for generating conflict though - this disconnect between what she feels and what really IS. There's a lot to work with here and I'd love to see what they do with it.
