Seems like there's always a strong woman character in the movies these days, right? For me, the female leads often fall short, come off as strong-because-the-script-says-so, or are only capable and tough because audiences (and studios) demand it. So I'm sharing an old movie that I loved in my formative years, and if I could turn on even one person to it I would be happy, as it's largely forgotten. Based on the life of Shirley Muldowney, who broke into the male-dominated world of top fuel dragster and funny car racing in the 1960's and '70s. Maybe it means more to me than it would most people, since I grew up around dragstrips (the dinosaur roar of a dragster engine firing up is still one of the most thrilling, powerful and nostalgic sounds I know), but I think there's a lot for any woman to appreciate in this film. Bonnie Bedelia is spectacular. This is the whole movie. Give it a whirl, if you have time!

Ahhhhh well I just got to watch it tonight! I curled up with the budgies in my fleecy throws and settled down.
What a movie!
First off, I loved the way the story played through the decades and the sights and sounds took me back to the happy feelings of being a kid and all that was around back in the hay day! I love the retro stuff... it can't be replicated quite the same way these days... this is basically retro doing retro if you get my drift. 1983 doing the 1950's onwards.... Brilliant!
She certainly went through the mill this woman and she is a shining result of perseverance and indomitable spirit! I can imagine my mum would have watched this with me, it's the kind of stuff we used to watch together. I have now learned a little about what drag racing is! I didn't have much of a clue about it!
I was thoroughly taken in by this movie! Thanks so much for sharing this Pisces. I love stuff like this.
Guys, get your pop corn on and snuggle up, it's a great movie! Please watch!
