I apologize for using the forum for this, but the anonymity of the karma rating system doesn't allow me much choice, and I was tired of passively sitting back while someone was obviously purposefully lowering my karma.
I'd like to start by saying that about 2 or 3 weeks ago, it became apparent that someone was obviously lowering my karma. It was a weekend, and I was spending the evening watching a movie and chatting with the other members in the chatroom, when I noticed that my karma kept going down. I monitored it, and about every hour, pretty much exactly every hour, my karma would go down by one. I seriously doubt it was a coincidence that at 53 minutes after the hour for 4 or 5 hours in a row, 4 or 5 different people decided to smite my karma rating. Reason #2 I believe it to be one person attempting to lower my karma is that late in the evening, I will come online and post some, and often early in the morning before I go to class, and then when I get back on at lunch time to see what's new, my karma will be one or two lower. So there's a window in the morning of about 4 hours, from 8 am until noon, where someone is lowering my karma by one, sometimes two points. Since most of the forum's visitors come online in the evening, it is statistically unlikely that the low ratings are coming from different people and very likely that the ratings are coming from a single individual.
At first, I thought I'd ignore it because I didn't think I really cared. Then I realized I do care, so I decided to do something about it. I have several friends who are members here, so I instant messaged them and requested a boost on my karma to counter attack the perpetrator. I'm not giving their names so as to protect them from this same type of sabotage. So every day when my rating predictably goes down by usually one point early in the morning, I drop an instant message to one of my friends and request a boost.
I'm not sure why someone has chosen to pick on me. I've never received any feedback about any of my posts here, and I like to think I'm a well-mannered, contributing member of our community. If anyone thinks otherwise, feel free to let me know in a thread, or even in an instant message. I actually have been trying lately to fix some of the problems I have that I have recently been made aware of, such as not smiling enough and not speaking loudly enough. Any suggestions for how I can improve my posts or manners or anything else is welcom, provided it comes in a calm and helpful manner.
Now, that said, I really don't appreciate being smited every day predictably from 8:00 to 12:00 in the morning. If I've offended someone somehow in a post I made or if I could somehow be a better member of this forum, please let me know, and smite me if you wish as well. I don't have a problem with it when it is a sincere smite. But I have a hard time believing that every day I post something worthy of a smite, especially since I try to make my posts friendly, politically correct, and with an overall positive undertone.
So, here's my main point. I'm adding a new consequence for the daily smiting. Instead of contacting one of my friends and asking for a karma boost to replace the lost one, my friends will replace it times two. This means that for every lost karma I get, my friends will give me back 2. So essentially, by continuing your daily "smite ladygreenleaf" routine, you're helping to raise my karma. I don't mean for this to stop others from smiting me for good reason, just this one person who feels the need to hide behind anonymity and refuses to tell me what it is exactly I'm doing that pisses them off so badly. As soon as the daily smiting dies down and it's obvious that the smiting is coming from different members for good reasons, I'll discontinue doing this. I just want this member who keeps smiting me to know that their smiting is now contributing to my karma rather than taking away from it.
If whoever this is who keeps smiting me would like to let me know why it is they are doing this and give me some corrective feedback, I welcome it. You can either reply to this thread or send me a private message. I will absolutely not post the name of this person in this thread or any other thread, so if you do want to tell me what it is that I'm doing wrong so I can fix it, you can let me know without public embarrassment. Actually, I'm pretty sure I know who it is because that night that my karma kept decreasing by one every hour on the hour, I looked to see who was browsing the forum at that time, and there was only one member who was online during each instance. Still, I'd rather this person come to me rather than me identifying her.
Again, to everyone else, members and moderators, please forgive me for having to post this in the forum, but since I have come under attack over the past couple of weeks, I felt it necessary to let this person know their aggression will no longer be tolerated. Please return to your normal Cillian Murphy drooling duties and have a great day!!!! ;D
