I didn't think it was going to be this bad---I mean, I was in Florida during Andrew, and we saw some trucks turn over and had some bad rain (I was visiting...) but this is absolutely insane.
There's so much HISTORY in New Orleans and whathaveyou. It's really terrible.

I've been hearing on the news that those without money or means to leave the city or get to the stadium should get a hammer or an ax and go to the attic of their house until the water rises higher than the attic. Then they should use the hammer or ax to break through the roof. People thinking that the attic will be high enough above ground to escape are going to drown in 20+ feet of water. Scary, scary sh*t. They are predicting over 20,000 deaths but I hope that the emergency procedures and incessant warnings will be enough to get both the impoverished and the stubborn out in time. My thoughts are with everyone there and if any posters are from the area.

Almost my entire family lives in Louisiana They all live in the surrounding area of new orleans and except some live by the mississippi border in slidell (which is worse..the eastern side of the hurricane is always the worst part.) Luckily one of my uncles lives in baton rouge so everyone went there because it's higher ground. hey there, my aunt and her whole fam live in slidell too. we talked to them on sunday around noon and they were in the convoy to alabama. they had 40 miles to go and it was bumper to bumper. we will have to do the slidell check in. i can't seem to see anything online and they aren't mentioning it on the news. hey britt, slidell got hit really hard. 50% of homes destroyed.

Yeah, apparently it was one of the worst hit areas luckily, my uncle's house there is fine, just some wind damage. my uncle in lacombe will probably have to rebuild his house.

It's so disheartening these days watching the news and seeing the devastation. I can't help but feel so sorry for those people.
