With respect to "fans", there were a couple of people at the stage door who were just aggressive. Many were clearly autograph hounds as opposed to fans of any of the cast. Cillian was polite but clearly uncomfortable with the whole stage door thing. He did, under duress, take a picture with a pushy &t quot;fan" the first night I saw it. However, two nights later, he was standing in front of me when someone asked to have a picture taken with him and he said and I quote "I prefer not to" and he let her take a picture of him and signed her autograph. That is what I am talking about. Thanks for that info pluto16. I want to meet him. I am not pushy at all and I am not a photo hound. I don't even like autographs. I mean I understand people wanting them. I just feel I personally don't know what to do with someones name on a peice of paper. So I respect his need for personal space. At the same time I am coming from Chicago and it would mean alot to me to have a picture with him. I can ask, I guess and if he says he would rather not I will just say it was nice meeting him. I wouldn't be mad at all. Maybe a bit sad.

I think blackmamba has a point. Don't expect for the worse to happen already. I think that as long as you're not pushy and respect his need for personal space, you'll be fine

My plan is the one I've used since... well, since I've had plans for meeting people. It's worked so far, so let's hope it works when I see Cillian, too.
I regularly just thrust my hand out and say something completely original like, "Hi, I'm Amanda!" all brightly with grins. Once in a while, like when I'm not completely sure who I'm introducing myself to I add an "...and I don't know you" to the end of that, but it's been working pretty well so far! I figure if he's a human being at all (and let's face it, the probability that he's a god or something gets higher with each passing day) he'll say hello back and then I'll just go from there.

Aw, thanks. =x
I think the main problem that people have when meeting celebrities--or anyone, really, who they admire enough to actually go and see--is that they don't actually realize that these are people, too. Yes, they're very, very talented people, but at the end of the day, they just go home like everyone else.
I mean, it's a bit more difficult for them because they always have fans around, but for us they are the sole reason for the trip, so it's a little bit one-sided, but in my experience, people--celebrities--really like to know that their fans appreciate them. It's just probably not a good idea for said fans to be pushy and rude to them. We never know what kind of day they're having, etc., and the worst thing to do ever is to get all offended if things don't go the way as planned. If the person is rude or short with you, it's most likely not your fault, so don't take it personally.

More questions that keep popping up... For those who saw the play....
Was Michael McKean funny?
What kind of clothes did Beane wear?
Was the theatre crowded?

1. FUNNY. AS. HELL. Together, he and Kristen have perfect deadpan comic timing. Old-fashioned and very classy! 2. Rumpled long-sleeve button-down shirt in ivory or off-white over white wife-beater on top; rumpled blue work pants (like D[/li][li]ckies) below. And those six-eye Kyle Docs. Think "unironed postal worker." 3. That charming but teensy place (it has just over four hundred seats) has no choice but to be crowded! Yet another reminder that folks about a hundred years back were just a *wee* bit tinier than folks today. Velvet-upholstered but moderately unforgiving chairs of the elbow-to-elbow variety, and come prepared to gaze at the backs of heads if you're beyond Row K (y'know, whoever came up with the idea of stadium seating ought to get a Nobel Prize). Other than that-- in terms of crowds, right--?-- they had the "House Full" sign out nearly every night I was there. The Thursday Kristen came down ill, though, the matinee was canceled. The Ambassadors was kind enough to transfer my ticket to the night's performance, and it was nowhere near sold out. Kind of an aura of negative energy that night, a little cold and unfocused. Think people were rattled: that was the day they had a tornado in London! (And, if you have hopes of getting into the Ladies' on the steps going down to the front stalls, think "I am a legless contortionist. I am a legless contortionist...." Just a note of advice!
