Just wonderin'...Called, purchased and confirmed my date with Cillian on April 6th. Woohoo! Can't wait.
If anyone has seen or will see it before me, would love to get your review on it! I read someone's post on CMIE that Cillian was positively brilliant as Christy.

Yes Yes, I saw it here in Galway last Monday week and it really is a must see play, Cillian is great as Christy and Ann Marie Duff is just as good as Pegeen. Fans of Cillian should definetly check it out if they can

Is your boyfriend going to go with you? lol... Not sure yet...he's definitely going to Ireland with me and my friends for another event. I don't want to drag him to the play, especially since I drag him to everything else ;D plus, if my b/f were there I couldn't drool over Cillian as much as I'd like to. Hehe!
And nollaig...thanks for the heads up. Anne Marie Duff is great actress too. I loved her in Magdalene Sisters. I can't wait to see it now...

One of the local papers here in Galway has a review of the play the other day, it didn't get on so good, it compared druids current production with previous ones and according to the author this one was the worst. He singles out the two lead characters for criticism. It was my 1st time to see the playboy of the western world & the author does say that if you hadn't seen the play before , you would still gain from it. so maybe he was right as i hadn't seen it before.yet i thought it was wonderful.

Thanks, nollaig! I really can't wait to see the play as it will be my first ever to see it on stage. I read the play most recently, and for some reason I remember reading it back in high school too, but I think it's a very cleverly constructed play.
Here's a good review that I found...

I think it's unfair of critics to make those kinds of obvious comparisons between different productions (though, it's to be expected when it's a celebrated work that's reached iconic status) - but still, any production deserves to be judged on it's own merits... I've yet to read or see the play, but I've heard really good things about it - just the other day my mum was telling me that she saw it performed back in the 60's (in Glasgow or Edinburgh? can't remember) and she really loved it. She thinks it's well worth travelling to see...so I'll take her advice on that I'm trying to avoid reading too many reviews (good or bad) as I'm really looking forward to seeing it with a totally fresh perspective.

Tasha, which show are you going to?
I'm having problems finding hotel accommodations...HELP! I could stay somewhere in either Cork or Kerry. I've looked online, but I haven't had any luck.

Hi, new girl here Well anyway I saw playboy of the western world on Monday night at the Gaiety and Loved it! Cillian is so great to watch on stage, and not just cause of his great looks Anne-marie duff was incredible! Id seen her in the magdalene sisters and sinners so i was looking forward to seeing her on stage. I didnt think it was meant to be a funny play but it turned out to be hillarious! And the ending was not at all what i expected which is always a good thing

Welcome to the board, Musette89! And thank you for the wonderful review. Have you read the play? At first, it was a bit difficult to comprehend, but as you read on, it all comes together. I actually found it out to be quite humourous too. Now, I seriously can't wait to see it. ;D
