Yeah. My teacher showed us last year, I think. I've had him for two semesters. (sadly, I won't have him anymore because he currently doesn't teach any other classes than the ones I've already taken. He's the most awesome teacher, too. Let's us be late for class, eat in class, he's a pretty laid back guy.) Anyway- Yeah, I've always had this big interest in religion.

^ you should read Angels & Demons rev. It's about science vs. religion. Adam & Eve vs. Evolution. It's a good read. It definitely makes you think.

okay, I guess I kind of take it back. I just saw a commercial of it with new scenes and Tom looks pretty convincing as Langdon. I'm starting to get excited.

I don't know, I just really don't think Tom Hanks can pull it off. I'm going to be distracted by his hair hardcore, I can already tell.
How far do we think they're going to stray from the book, though? That's what I'm worried about. Everything just fits so perfectly in the book that I don't think it'll work if they change anything.
...although, I could be wrong. I felt the same about Harry Potter, but somehow they change things a lot in those films and they still seem to work out. Let's just not get me started on HP.

I barely finished the book and I loved it. I guess my imagination was disrupted since I knew Tom Hanks was going to play Langdon already. *shrugs* I think he can pull it off. He's bloody Tom Hanks. lol I know that Teabing description isn't like Ian McKellen at all but OMG, Ian was meant to play that part. I can't wait until Friday!

I guess that since I read it the first time through without Tom Hanks in mind now it just seems terribly off. I mean, don't get me wrong, Tom Hanks is a fantastic actor, but I just really don't see him as Langdon. I pictured Langdon way more rugged and athletic-ish. I mean, I read Angels and Demons and I really just can't see it. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised, though.
I didn't even know Ian McKellen was going to be playing Teabing, but you're right--he's perfect! He'll be fantastic!
I work at the movie theater here in town, so I get to see the movie on Thursday night, and I haven't finished reading the book for the second time yet! I'm really going to have to cram. I know I'll be back at this thread, though, to discuss the film come Friday when people have seen it. It's driving me nuts waiting for so long!
Now I just wonder if they're going to make a film from Angels and Demons as well. I kind of doubt it because of all the controversy surrounding Da Vinci, but I guess they'll wait until they see how it does at the box office!

I just read on a LiveJournal community that the reactions to it at Cannes yesterday were lukewarm at best. Yikes! That doesn't sound very good!

I just read on a LiveJournal community that the reactions to it at Cannes yesterday were lukewarm at best. Yikes! That doesn't sound very good! yes, I read the same thing on MSN. They also said that the critics laughed at a poignant scene towards the end of the movie when Tom Hank's character reveals something very important. He was apparantely too melodramatic! They also said that, regardless of the reactions, anyone who's read the book wll be curious enough to buy a ticket and see it. I hate to admit it, but I'll be one of them! oh! as if it's a surprise, it was also said that Ian McKellen stole the movie with his performance. He's definitely having a great year ( Da Vinci Code, Xmen 3). He's a brilliant actor!

I was sad when I saw the reviews. Oh well, it's not gonna stop me from seeing the movie. I don't listen to critics, really. I can guarantee that you all will be entertained. Ian rocks my world. I knew he would be excellent.

I just got back from screening it (I work at a movie theater and we screen all films on the Thursday before they come out on Friday) and I just wanted to throw my two cents in.
Critics at Cannes weren't wrong. They were completely spot-on (at least for me), but it really wasn't what I expected at all. I think there are a lot of parts that are very faithful to the book, but then there are some things that kind of made me want to cry. Especially toward the end. I'm pretty sure I said, "WHAT?!" about twenty times. My friend who has also read the book was right along with me in all of that, too.
I mean, it was entertaining, I guess, but definitely not what I expected. At all. I kind of want to have a little chat with whoever wrote the screenplay. Some things obviously needed to be changed if we didn't want a three and a half hour film, but some things were thrown in just to be annoying (or maybe the screenwriter just doesn't have faith in our ability to comprehend, and, let's face it, probably with just cause).
I guess everyone will have to decide for him or herself, but I personally was pretty disappointed.

I have The Da Vinci Code book on reserve in my nearest library and I'm getting it tomorrow. Ever since the movie is out, everyone has been running around trying to get the book. I heard from almost about all my friends that the book was really good, and they read it in 24 hours because they couldn't put it down, and stuff like that. So I'm looking forward to reading it. As for the movie, I'm not too sure if I should see it in theatres, so I think I'll just rent it when it comes out on DVD.
