I think a lot of people were disappointed in it because in all of the trailers it was like, "This is going to be a GREAT COMEDY!" and then... it was actually more of a drama. It threw people too far off for everyone to have been satisfied. I just watched a Conan interview with Rachel (yesterday, actually) and she was talking about the charades scene and she said something like, "We were all improving and they were like 'Princess Bride!' and 'Beekeeper!' and I said, 'wh*re!' The whole set went dead quiet and I was like, '...too much?'" HAHAHAHA. She is eternally adorable. If I can't have Cillian, at least Rachel should. xP I plan on seeing it as it is out on DVD now, I'll rent it sometime. As for just letting Rachel have Cillian, heck no; I'll put up a good fight before that happens, if she wins fair & square so be it(cause I do love her) but other wise, heck no, Cillian's mine! Lol. Besides, isn't Rachel McAdams with Ryan Gosling, I heard somewhere they were even engaged? She gets all the good ones, it's not fair.

You definitely should rent it! It's a really great film. I cried. =x
I don't think they're engaged, but as far as I know they are definitely together.
I'm in this RPG, though, where it's totally Rachel/Cillian. They would have the prettiest babies ever. xD

Though, I'm sure no matter who he's with, if he has kids with them & they inherit any of his looks they'll be gorgeous. Simply must see his son....

It's a joltingly terrible film.
I wrote a short review of it over at Metacritic.com. Briefly, if you think that cancer makes for a clever plot twist in a slapsticky holiday comedy, watch it. If not, flee. Watch "Home for the Holidays" instead.
I left "Family Stone" not only wanting back my money and the time I'd wasted watching that miserable, mean-spirited, blathering mess of a movie but wishing there were some way of revoking the directorial and writing licenses of the short-bus moron responsible for it. I've forgotten his name; I don't care to remember it. I only hope he hasn't given up his day job.
Oh, and ungentle wrist-slaps for the whole cast, Rachel included. They're professionals; they oughtta know better.
A really, really dreadful film. Avoid.

Really, punctuator, you think so? I thought it was brilliant, but they shouldn't have advertised it as a comedy. I think that's what threw so many people. If they'd advertised it as a drama instead I'll bet you would've been more receptive.

I first saw it in December with my mom and thought it was a brilliant movie. This is kinda weird but when I saw the scene where they were all seated at the table for dinner and Sarah Jessica Parker's character Meredith unintentionally insults the deaf and gay man Thad, I was really freaked out. The tension to me was so real and it kept getting worse because Meredith would not shut up. So when the father banged the table and shouted, " That's enough!", I basically felt like the character Meredith did. But there are some downfalls to the movie. The thing that bothered me was that Meredith was so underconfident that I just got tired of her halfway through the movie. Like, for example, where Meredith discovers Everett's allergic to mushrooms: Ben: " Now, are those mushrooms?" Meredith: " I didn't know!!" My reaction: Whoa, calm the heck down. I mean, would you really react that way? Also, another thing that kinda bothered me was the whole swapping girlfriends thing between the two brothers. I know for a fact it doesn't work that smoothly, no matter if the guy did love the girl or not. But, overall, I thought there was an excellent cast and I cried at the end of the movie. It's a great heartwarming film, and I own the dvd simply because I had to have it in my dvd collection. Oh, and hell0sunshine, I remember that part. Meredith: (whispers) " I slept with your brother." Everett: " You slept with who?" (He turns around and raises his eyebrows in question at Thad) Thad: ( puts hands up) " Do not look at me!" I swear, that part cracks me up every time.

I personally, liked it a lot -- I mean, is it the best I've seen? Not really, no, but the cast was great, I love Diane Keaton, and Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the City fan here, lol), Rachel, and Luke Wilson... I thought some parts were very witty and humorous but it should've been labeled comedy-drama. It's a nice seasonal film, just the ending's a bit bitter. Got to say, I lo-o-oved when Luke got Sarah drunk and she totally relaxed from her uptight position and started dancing like crazy.
