"what I think you did is expect too much. I expected nothing - and enjoyed it immensely"
OK... you got me! I'll give it a second chance when I'll be having a bad day. For a 16 years old, I'm quite impressed with the maturity, the spelling and the logic... cheers to that... where are you from, by the way? Yes, my expectations were high, because this is the way things are. When someone (Cillian Murphy, in this case) gets you used to great work, you can't actually expect less then great work. And I am sure it must be really hard for all the actors out there to be forced to live up to some standards. Sure artists are not perfect, and have their relaxation moments. For example, I love Queen... Freddie was a genious... yet, I don't like all their songs. Anyway, I think Cillian can do better than that... I really want to see this little guy with an Oscar or Palm D'Or in his hands one day, and small little comedies will not take him there.

(Three cheers for Queen! ;D) I wouldn't worry for Cillian. He obviously knows what he wants, he's been very careful with his film selection thus far, and obviously he liked this screenplay if he took it. If it's any consolation, he's one of those people who couldn't care less about getting an award. And I'd much rather he tried various roles than to just be known as "the bad guy from Red Eye", which seems to be all anyone knows him as (still). And I don't know about the Palm D'Ors, but I've certainly lost all faith in the Oscars this year (and do every year), so I'd much rather he keep away from those. (To answer your question, I'm Russian, but I live in Canada.

Russian... cool... I could have sworn you're not a native English speaker (the grammar is so by the book) and I could have almost sworn you're from Eastern Europe... I can smell an Easterner when I see one....!

Perhaps to clarify, I've lived in the U.S./Canada since I was three, and I learned English completely by the time I was five. So I sound so pompous just for the fun of it.

I think what really disappoints me is the fact that they have waited so long to put this movie out! By the way welcome to the forum enigmatic! ;D

Yes, I agree with some of you, though I have not yet seen the film, I do think I will go into it expecting too much. I'm going to try not too though! It's just that cillian has done nothing but great work. All of his movies (seen most, not all the little-er films he did early on) have been spot on fantastic roles. So I'm a bit surprised to hear the negative reviews. Comedy (especially rom coms) are extremely hard to do now...the story and humor really have to be spot on and well done in order to be considered good. Maybe the film doesn't appeal to everyone; it seems the humor is more silly and fun than smart and sophisticated, which sometimes can be pulled off (SOMETIMES). But when you look at his funnier characters, like John or Breech, the humor is so smart and witty that it works soooooo well. It's so difficult for silly humor to please nowadays. From what I've seen with previews, the film does seem like it runs out of gas quickly...the plot doesn't seem like it would hold our attention for too long. but I dunno, Cillian must have seen something in this film, I just have to figure out what!

As a dedicated fan, I will probably end up going to see it, although I won't have to high of expectations. I am exited to see more of his rock and roll look (which was so hot I nearly died). I just wish it would come out alrerady!

I agree. I think it's a pretty funny movie if you just see it knowing that it's going to be silly.

ok...I just watched this today! Well, on a rating scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best), I give it a 6. I'll give everyone my two cents, but I don't want to spoil the film for others with my negativity! There is some positivity to this though, so don't worry too much. The film was somewhat entertaining. I thought the acting was really good. Lucy was really funny to watch and had an interesting personality on screen. Cillian was also superb. He was totally unrecognizable. That is what I love so much about him; he just buries himself in these roles, and instead of seeing Cillian Murphy portraying Neil, I just see Neil as Neil would be...if you know what I mean! His character totally took me by surprise, because I had never seen him in such a light film. Although he was very good, I really didn't care for his character. He was just too weird. I dunno. The story needs a lot of work. The whole film is just boy meets girl, girl plays lots of pranks on him. It's definitely a screwball comedy, but it needs more of a beginning, middle, and end. The character development is incomplete and Lucy and Cillian's relationship never grows. There are some funny parts, but the humor needed to be turned up just a bit. It was a bit too flat. The plot line was interesting, but the script needed more work. Direction and pacing were off too. If you don't expect anything, you'll like it. Compared to today's RomComs, it's NOT IN NO WAY bad. It's just a light and fun movie. If you don't think about characters/plot/direction (like some film nerds on here like me!), it's good. We're just used to these epic characters Cillian has played in the past, and this really isn't a memorable one. Definitely not Cillian's best work, but I do see why he chose the script. I think it was mostly the direction that hurt the film. I would see it again I think. Whoops...I wrote too much

I plan on watching it as soon as it is available, no matter what else is said about it. I may not like the storyline, or the characters, but nothing you can say will deny me the pleasure of watching him on screen. some odd hours spent stairing at his face/hearind his voice(albeit in an American accent) will be well spent for me.

Well, I don't have a huge review right now. But going into it and knowing it was a Romantic Comedy I didn't set too high expectations.
Just knowing Cillian was in it was enough. I must admit, I wouldn't have seen this if he wasn't in it! But overall, I enjoyed it. There were great quirks. It was pretty original to my liking as well. Lucy's character was a downfall for me at several times. I was always just confused or frustrated. But in the end it just all worked out! Haha, I really can't wait to see it again. But that's just me!
This one should definately be given a view, even if you are unsure about it. It's worth the minutes!

^Yeah, I haven't seen a good romantic comedy since Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan's smorgasbord. That being said, I still liked Watching the Detectives; I didn't love it, though.
