CHAPTER FOUR! Enjoy. Feedback please.

Chapter Four:
Jackson’s feet walked at a steady pace along the sidewalk. As he passed people on the street, he felt like an open book, with people giving him the, “Oh, I know you” stare in the most disgusted way possible.

Clip. Clop. Clip. Clop. Clip…

Jackson stopped and instantly turned to his right. He had arrived at the Lux Atlantic. He stood there for a moment looking up at the monstrous building with feelings of nervousness, excited-ness, and pure uncertainty. Jackson took his gaze off of the hotel for a moment to look around and absorb his surroundings. Everything seemed perfectly normal and nothing unusual seemed to be taking place. He noticed people walking in and out through the lobby’s main doors with various bags of all shapes and sizes. He soon saw a man just few feet away from him loading bags into his Volvo. Jackson studied the older gentleman, as he sat his drink and sunglasses on the roof of the car and continued loading bags into his car.

”Too perfect,” Jackson thought.

Once the man walked back around to the trunk of the Volvo once again with his last bag, Jackson very casually walked up to the driver’s side door and snatched the sunglasses off the roof of the car. Safely in Jackson’s possession, he slipped them on and casually walked towards the lobby entrance. It was the perfect disguise; not too bold, but not too minimal.

Like taking candy from a baby.

Now, with dark black sunglasses shielding his piercing blue eyes, he no longer had to deal with sticking out in a crowd or people staring at him for that matter. It was those eyes of his that always set him apart. Even if he wasn’t attracting attention from a court case, he was hypnotizing people’s focus with those crystalline pools of blue. He took a deep breath and stepped through the giant glass doors into the Lux Atlantic. Jackson felt like he had just entered a world of commotion. There were people running around frantically getting from here to there and a line of about 15 people to check in. The best part of it all? Jackson had no clue where he was going. He knew Lisa was around and he needed to find her. But what scared him was, he also knew Joe was around and Jackson had no idea how close he was. He didn’t have time to wait around but, by the looks of the line, he didn’t have a choice. He grabbed a magazine from the rack and took a seat in an overstuffed chair in the lounge, facing the front desk. He held the magazine casually in front of his face while tipping down the rim of the sunglasses. He scanned the magazine, not really reading it. But, one headline caught his attention.

Deputy Secretary and Family Barely Escape Death.

“Oh yay. More information for everybody to read about me,” Jackson almost said out loud.

The title intrigued him though. Even though Lisa told him in her father’s house that the Keefe family made it out safe, he never found out how or why. Jackson was too caught on the fact of getting his revenge on Lisa that he just became more angered at the fact that they survived and Jackson continued on his way. He carefully scanned the article, not really absorbing the information. He was a part of the situation, after all. Jackson was mainly looking for the answer to how and he believed he could find that exact answer in this article.

Word after word. Paragraph after paragraph… what have we here…

“Lisa’s last minute call to Cynthia at the Lux Atlantic rescued Mr. Keefe and his family just seconds before disaster.”

No…

Jackson could not believe what he was reading.

LISA saved Keefe? LISA REISERT?

His blood began to boil throughout his body.

”I should have f*cking known,” Jackson said to himself, looking up to cut his eyes at Cynthia behind the desk.

Jackson jumped, when all of the sudden there was a tap on his shoulder. He turned to his side and looked up. It was a young woman dressed in business attire, seeming to be in a hurry.

”Hi, sorry to bother you. Do you happen to have the time?” she asked, clutching her briefcase.

Jackson’s heart was pounding. It was the wrong moment to have a tap on your shoulder, with the train of thought that going on in his head.

“Uh, yeah. It’s 5:43.”

”Thank you, sir,” the woman said, rushing off down the hallway.

Breathe, Jackson. Breathe.

His heart rate slowed back down, as he returned his gaze to Cynthia behind the front desk. The line was now gone and Jackson saw this moment as his opportunity to make a move. He slowly stood up and slid the sunglasses back up his nose. He put the magazine back in the rack and proceeded to walk towards the counter. Jackson coughed, making a mental note to make his voice sound different than he did on the phone. His feet carried him across the tile floor until he was right in front of Cynthia.

”Good afternoon, sir. How can I help you?” Cynthia asked.

”Hi, is it possible to meet with Lisa? Is she in?”

Jackson began to sweat a little.

”Actually, sir, she’s in a meeting with someone right now. I can see if she can meet with you afterwards?”

”How long will that be?” Jackson asked.

”Probably about 15 minutes.”

”Okay. That’s fine.”

”May I have your name and the topic the meeting will concern?”

Oh sh*t.

”I’m… uh. Bryan. Watts. I’m interested in meeting with her about the computer system here.”

Nice going, Jackson. Use the first name of your old friend that you used and the last name of Sasha. Smooth.

“Okay, Bryan. I’ll have Lisa meet with you in about 15 minutes.”

”Is it possible you could tell me where we’ll be meeting? I have to make some errands and I was going to leave and come back,” Jackson said, lying.

”Sure. Go out to the lounge, make a left, and head straight down the walkway. Make a left and Lisa’s office is dead ahead of you,” Cynthia replied in a cheery voice.

”Thank you very much… uh.” Jackson glanced at her nametag, pretending not to know her name. “Cynthia.”

”You’re welcome, sir. Have a nice day.”

Jackson walked off as quickly as possible. Once he was a safe distance away from Cynthia he turned around to make sure that she was busy with other things and he made a run for it towards Lisa’s office. He headed straight down the walkway, as Cynthia directed and then make a left around the corner. He stopped running. Now, he was being very cautious and nervousness began to settle in the pit of his stomach. Jackson slowly crept to the door and ran up beside the doorway to her office. He was afraid to look inside. He might see somebody in there that he didn’t want to see, meaning Joe. Or, it could just be another businessman or businesswoman having an innocent meeting with Lisa.

Do I dare look… C’mon, Jackson. Just do it.

Jackson quickly looked into the window of the door to her office and slammed himself back against the wall. His breathing became so heavy, that his chest was on fire and a look of fear came over his face, as he gripped the wall as hard as he could with sweaty palms. But, Joe was not the person causing this reaction to Jackson’s body. In fact, Joe was nowhere in sight. He was now scared for his life because of one simple fact. He had just seen the glimpses of two faces he’d never hope to see again. Two faces that could be summed up in one word.
