. . . Am I the only one who listens to J-Rock and is an avid fan? Like, Dir en Grey, Malice Mizer, X Japan, Miyavi, etcetera . . .

I am a fan! I really like Dir en Grey, Malice Mizer, Hide and X-Japan. But I like Luna Sea the best! I really love Luna Sea's lyrics--I blame them for my taking Japanese in high school (which ended up leaving me in a pretty good situation college-wise.)
But yeah, I would say I am a fan--not so much an avid fan anymore. Just a fan.

Ahh, phew. At least I'm not completely alone then. ^^; was worried there for a second . . .
Though my j-rock fan-ness is limited from lack of resources. Kinda hard getting ones hands on imports of pirating songs/music videos, and the closest anime convention is only up in April . . .

I see. I used to live around Baltimore so I went to Otakon 99-03. Anime conventions are very odd. I am not the biggest anime fan but I am really interested in Japanese culture so I went more for the lectures and that sort of thing.
(I am a bad kid--I used to download J-rock like crazy when Napster was at its peak!)

Arizona never had an anime convention until April of this year, so I could never get my hands on some CDs. Now that I look back, I say to myself, "Damn it! Shouldn't have bought that giant wall scroll at the Matsuri Festival. Shoulda saved it for the Dir en Grey CD I found."
And ya, anime conventions are pretty strange. I too am interested in Japanese culture, about as much as I am anime and manga. But those conventions only solved the anime/manga craze - I only trust to learn about the culture from a professional or from someone who's Japanese and has lived in Japan for at least 18 years.

I listen to all kinds of Japanese music, but mostly Jrock. Dir en grey is possibly my favorite band... but it all began with X Japan many a year ago. Dir en grey, X Japan, hide, Kuroyume, Malice Mizer, Miyavi, Blam Honey, Plastic Tree, Luna Sea, Gackt, Klaha... and I could go on.
I probably listen to more Japanese music than English.

Ha, I knew you liked X Japan from the username.
Same here. I hardly ever listen to English music anymore (other than precious Marilyn Manson, and occasionally some singles of other bands and singers I like). And because it's hard for me to come across a lot of J-Rock with the little money I have, I find myself listening to the same things over and over again, unless I'm lucky enough to come across another song by Miyavi or something. *sigh* I really need a job . . .
I only got into J-Rock about . . . ahh, probably a year and a half ago, though the obsession took a while to really set in, like 6 months ago. My main J-Rock supplier introduced me by burning me a CD with all of Malice Mizer, Kozi, and Moi Dix Mois's songs, along with hundreds upon hundreds of pictures. (Goodness, she is a sweetheart and one sweet connection.)
