I REALLY want to see this movie. Is it going to be released in the UK and Ireland or is it just a region 1 thing? I looked up on Amazon and it's only available as a Region 1 import....

To sum it up, it was better than I expected, and I don't know why I avoided it for so long. It is not his best film by any stretch of the imagination. I suppose that, when I look at his body of work, I must rank WTD at the bottom because everything else is so high-line. But if this is the worst Cillian can do, then I am pretty damned impressed. He gave this movie a spark it would otherwise not have had. Having said all of that, I am looking forward to INCEPTION ravenously. The comedy was nice, but I crave a good, intense Cillian more than anything, and I can't wait to have him back. I'm glad you gave WTD a try, Pisces! You're right; it's not Cillian's best work, but I found it enjoyable for what it is. I didn't have much expectation for it, but it had a few good laughs here and there. I have to echo you about Inception! I'm so excited for it! Intensity is what Cillian evokes the best, and I'm looking forward to see what Chris Nolan has up his sleeve...

Hi! I'm new here, so I don't know if I need to make a new thread for this or something. Anyway, I'm posting this message here since it's for the movie "Watching the Detectives."
I just wanted to report that the movie was shown last Saturday, around noon, on the "Star Movies" cable channel. It's a pretty big movie channel in these parts, and is available in several Southeast Asian countries (I'm not sure but I think it's not limited only to this region). I was so ecstatic because the movie is getting a bigger audience, considering its stature as a straight-to-DVD movie. I'm just happy that more people will get to see a CM film thanks to a cable channel. I hope Peac*ck will get some airtime on cable TV, too, as it is a very good movie and Cillian was just phenomenal in it.
As for WTD, it's not really my favorite CM movie, but it does have one of my favorite Cillian onscreen moments: the scene where he's playing baseball and he runs around the base crying. Actually, I think Neil is a pretty endearing character. I also realized that Cillian has really good comedic timing. Maybe if Violet's character were played by an actress who actually has chemistry with Cillian, I'd think the movie was great. It was entertaining, but not that great...though I got my friend to give me a DVD of the movie as a Christmas present. LOL.

Yes, definitely! Lucy Liu & Cillian are great together. I had the DVD too because though it is pure entertainment, I have to say that it is one of the best films you can choose when you are down for instance. It is purey amazing & hilarious!!

I have to agree, I really enjoyed WtD, however I can understand why some wouldn't. It's not a huge production, but sometimes I prefer it that way. Cillian and Lucy didn't have any undeniable chemistry going on, but I still liked them together. I would describe their relationship as "cute" as opposed to "romantic". The plot of the film didn't leave much room for romance, though. Neil is indeed an endearing character, and I found him very comical. I just loved that side of Cillian's acting.

I'm another who, while not rating this as amongst Cillians best movies, still really liked and enjoyed it for the most part. I think at times it gets over slated. Admittedly I don't think it's the best comedy ever, but at the same time still thought it worked pretty well. Imo the storyline was reasonably original, the movie had some truly hilarious moments in it and the acting was good all round. It's never made much sense to me that a film like this ended up going straight to dvd when other comedy movies (that I didn't think were all that great) such as Borat and The Mr Bean movies (though with that latter am guessing the proceding successful tv series made a difference) managed to make it to the big screen. They were ok. But most definitely the type of comedy films I wouldn't want to bother watching more than once. I thought WTD was better than all of them put together! Such a shame it never made it to movie theatre's I thought.

My personal opinion about WtD: I recently watched it for the second time. (this time in English! Loooooove Cillians voice!!!) And Cillians performance is so enjoyable and funny and charming that it balances the weaknesses of the movie out. The movies idea in fact isn't that bad at all. Nerdy guys hanging around a movie shop, discussing movies... That dreamer, Neil, who meats this girl who is totally the opposite of him... She, living in reality, enjoying it, making a game out of it and pulling Neil out of his dreams, showing him how to make his dreams real (sorry for my odd explaining... I hope everyone understands me. XD). So, the idea was really good. But they could have made much more out of it. What I missed the most was charm. Don't know how to explain, but I think there was just to less heart, color, warmth and originality in the movie. I'm not talking about Cillian, for his character had enough charms! I'm talking about the script, the directing, whatever. It has funny moments, thats right, and some nice little ideas. But the potential of the idea was not really taken to the limits. (Oh Jesus, I don't know how to construct that sentences!! ) Well, if one is a really huge fan of Cillian, I think this movie is a must see. For he is awesome in it. But it's so sad that the movie wasn't better written. It might could have been a great, well known romantic comedy like some other classics in that genre. But Cillian had fun doing it. Maybe that's the main thing about it. I can imagine that doing this movie, playing this role, maybe is more enjoyable than watching the movie.

As you say, Zombiekitten, this movie could have been better, of course. But I don't know, I just grew fond of Cillian and Lucy Liu, they are so cute... As an old-movies-nerd myself, I felt very much like Neil. Sometimes I have the tendency to live through the movies I watch (but then again, this is a fan forum, so who doesn't? xD) and I thought it was a cute and sweet story. The purpose of this movie isn't to have the pretention of an Inception or a Sunshine, in my opinion. It's what I like to call a "feel good movie", and it sure fulfills this aim! I even asked my english teacher if she could play it during the class, which she did, and she called me Neil for a while after that because I knew every line of it by heart. Just like the movie nerd I am. xD
