I also think they make an adorable couple. One of my favorite scenes in this movie is the cake part. He's so serious about it looking nice

I got hold of the DVD, a Spanish version. It eventually arrived yesterday. This evening I'm home alone, so it's going to be Sunburn

I hope you find something to like about it. I didn't find much. It was a story that had been seen many times before. In different surroundings, in different forms. Nothing new. Just a basic grow-up story adapted into a (immigrant)summer worker's world. Maybe it has something to give to some teenaged people? Don't know. I don't think it would have had anything to give to teenaged me. The film had a couple of good moments, but that was it. At times I found myself feeling a little guilty for thinking how damn good he sounds, considering the fact that I was 28 when I watched it, and he was only 22 or 23 during the shoot? I usually don't even look twice at guys that young. Anyway... when I think that much about sexual things during the film, it means there's not enough in itself to keep me interested/occupied. Please tell what you thought about it, Leyla. It's always interesting to learn about other people's way of viewing of things.

I actually haven't seen this yet, I'm not sure what it's about, which is probably the only reason I haven't seen it yet--but I think it's on Netflix, I might go see

It's about young Irish people who go to America to work for the summer. Not a masterpiece(IMO), but if you like the combination of an irish accent and Cillian's voice, it's worth the money.

Alisa, I agree with you there isn't much new or original about Sunburn. The mood is something I recognise, but the plot failed to move me. Maybe because I'm 34 or maybe because I never had any longing to escape to the US and spend my life on the beach, not even when I was a teen No spoilers, but I was really dissatisfied with the ending. I like open endings, but this is too abrupt. Cillian was amazing for one so young...I never even looked at younger actors twice, not even when I was 16. If he caught my attention back in the day there was a good reason. And the good reason is, even at 22 he's a joy to behold. The problem is, unlike On the Edge, he doesn't have much to do here. There is no real analysis of his characters' motivations and aspirations. Cillian is very good at showing is some cracks in his character's shell, but the scrip is not helping him. I'd say, watch it to complete his filmography, but don't expect too much.

I agree Leyla. Though I must say the scene where he does the pub boxing match is pretty funny! Such a little lad there haha! Thanks for the link Merlange!

It's...a bit crap really isn't it? But what I did love was the way that Davin sleeps, face pushed into the couch, pretty much like a two and a half year old. Was enchanting.

Of course he's uber cute, it's Cillian....even with the horrid hair. Yet it doesn't have the strength of a movie like On the Edge, I think the unfair comparison between the two was what spoilt it for me, I really loved On the Edge.

I found this movie quite amusing. No BIG quality movie thing, though... I always thought Davin looks a bit like a young Rippner ;D ( I already mentioned that somewhere... forgive me LOL )

On the Edge is a wonderful little film. Someone once said it reminded them of an Irish John Hughes film with a great soundtrack and lovely characters. I can see that. I did really enjoy it. Interesting to see how much people age though. The guy who played Nick the Headphones Lad was in Intermission only two years later and he'd aged about ten years.

I tend to like simple little films with simple stories. I really enjoyed Cillian in Sunburn. No, it wasn't spectacular but I try to give little films like that a chance. It kept me entertained at the time, that's all I can ask for.

I have still never seen this one, but now that there's a link to it, I will try and make time to sit down and watch it.
Zombie, I SO agree - I've seen pics from this movie and have always thought he looks like a young, punkass Rippner. ;D

Ahhh On The Edge made me cry! Such a delicate and deep film. Brilliant cast. Like BOP, Intermission & Perrier's Bounty. Awesome casts. I do tend to like the Irish set of films more. Hahaha... young Rippner! I think their characters are far too different but look wise, I suppose yes. ;D
