Hi newbies,
Just so you know, all the people listed on this forum as moderators no longer use the site. They're gone. Tragically, the founder of this forum, Jo, passed away. She passed on the reins to the current top administrator, Shannon, who visits about once a year with great fanfare, then disappears again. Shannon refuses to give any of the core users of the forum administrative powers in her stead, even though she hasn't been active since 2006.
I've posted this just so you know that the Forum Rules and some of the other moderator posts are outdated and can't be removed. No one here has the necessary permissions to moderate and see that the rules are followed.
Luckily, there's a great little group of core users who will answer your questions and try to make your stay here a fun one! This forum drifts along, mostly doing OK, with very little moderation. Hopefully, we won't encounter the kind of technical issues, copyright violations or interpersonal conflicts for which moderators are required any time soon.
Have fun!

Thank you for saying all of this, Melty_Girl. I should have perhaps written up a similar post. I realize that people do drift away from fandoms, actors, etc, and that this was bound to happen, given Cillian's career choices (in fact, I remember warning about this precise circumstance a couple years ago, but people seemed to think I was nuts, lol) but it still is discouraging to witness it. But of course, it doesn't have to be a permanent condition - if Cillian returns to filming projects that the world can see and enjoy again, I have the feeling this forum would be resurrected fairly quickly. I would like to put a suggestion out to the newer members, however, that would help this forum stay healthy. And that is to refrain from posting what are essentially 'textlike' messages in the threads. In other words, please DO go on and on about whatever the topic is - don't be shy! It can be a little frustrating and off-putting to other members and guests who check in regularly, to see that there is a new post under a particular topic... only to find that the poster merely said, 'yeah, cool!' or 'I agree!' There is nothing wrong with the sentiments expressed - but please tell us why you agree or find it cool! Don't kill the conversation with your replies! LOL! Blabbering and rambling is encouraged - the more, the better! That is what keeps members coming back.

I agree that if Cillian's films start doing better, there will be new energy here: probably another influx of mostly new fans and a few returning ones. I also agree that it is natural for people to drift away from fandoms. I think many people go through intense periods of fanaticism for an actor or musician, etc. and just like romantic love fades, it's only natural that not all people sustain their crazy fan ways forever. Some of us stay hooked, some of us don't. So when I warn newbies here that the old posts about the rules don't really apply, since the moderators are gone, I am honestly just trying to help out the new users of the forum -- I don't mean to scold the moderators who've left. That's always going to happen, and all this fan stuff is just for fun anyway. It's fine for moderators to leave. We just need a new admin and new moderators. The sad part is that there are people here, like you, who would gladly pitch in and administer and moderate this site, but the one person with the top admin rights, who rarely ever reads this forum and isn't interested in Cillian anymore, won't relinquish the master keys. And so, since there's no one to update all the outdated admin posts, I did a little rogue moderation, just to give newbies some info about how things really work around here.

Well said. You're welcome. (BTW, I responded to your comment over on The Cilliansite. Take a look.)

Why, yes, you did! I'm so glad to see that your situation has improved enough to be able to give the Cillian Site a little more time. It really is the best site for him out there.
I'd almost offer to help out with the site, if you needed anyone, but I don't know what sort of assistance you require these days. If you are looking for anyone to pitch in, you can PM me here. Or email me.

I'm not angry at the fans or mods for leaving, either - as you say, it's perfectly natural to do so when interest fades. But I can't help it if I do have an objection to Shannon for leaving, but not leaving gracefully and handing over control to those of us who still care about the forum. And no, none of this stuff is important - of course not. But I can't respect someone who is that much of a control freak. I can very much appreciate where you're coming from there Pisces. While I never knew Shannon, as she was here as an active admin I gather well before my time of joining, I don't see the sense in neglecting a forum for months on end but refusing to allow someone else to manage it instead. I've helped run informal chat forums before, and can appreciate that people's personal situations change from time to time in terms of how much time they have to commit. But if it's really that much of a problem for this admin, then I would have thought she'd be only too glad/appreciative that someone else who did have more time to devote had offered to help out. I don't get it either! Hmm...I'm wondering if it's worth maybe some of us attempting to get into contact with this admin again and trying to persuade her to see our point of view? I guess it's been done already...but maybe if we tried again things might work out differently next time.

It's gone a little quiet in here since the excitement of the TIFF has died down. I just popped in to say thanks to Emma for posting on the various threads. I do come and read the posts fairly regularly, and want her to know that they are being read and appreciated! Hopefully it won't be too long before we have a new film to see, and it should revive this site a little.

No probs at all Sabine and thank you for the kind words - that's nice of you to say. Hopefully it won't be too long before we have a new film to see, and it should revive this site a little. Seconding this. Have also noticed it's gone a little quiet on here recently - which in some ways really isn't too surprising given that Inception won't be coming out till next year and so far Perriers's Bounty has only come out in Toronto. Hopefully soon the situation will change though!
