Heads up - you'll probably understand the appeal of this band better if you watch the TV show Metalocalypse on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block.
As for the "band" itself...
I'll admit, it took a while for me to really get their appeal. I'm normally not a huge fan of death metal, and the first album's songs were entertaining, but they didn't truly hook me in (though I did enjoy Thunderhorse, Murmaider, The Lost Vikings, Awaken and Bloodrocuted). The show, Metalocalypse, however made me laugh my head off every episode. I became a more full-fledged fan once the second season came around, and the second album came out with more improved vocals and musicmanship. And now, I'm a hopeless Klok-aholic.
Now don't let the fact that the band is made of fictional entities turn you off from them. The show's creator, Brendon Small, wrote the lyrics and music and also performed the guitar, bass, and vocals, and he is amazing at all of them. And while the lyrics are slightly non-sensical, it fits with the theme of Dethklok as a parody/homage to numerous metal bands.
So, in order to truly understand the band, watch this amazing clip of them performing a coffee advertising jingle. It's truly brutal. It is, in the words of Nathan Explosion, "blacker than the blackest black times infinity."

I'm with you, Kizuna! I was exposed to Metalocalypse/Dethklok for the first time a few months ago...several of my friends watch it. We had a great laugh because all of the characters match up to our various personalities...it's actually a little scary (turns out I'm the manager, Charles). We even have a Murderface in our midst, though we won't point it out to her lol.
Anyway, enough rambling about my friends haha...the show is absolutely hilarious- it cracks me up how approximately half the crowd dies at every concert! The music is pretty addictive (and amusing) as well. I have 2 burned cds of theirs in my car and listen to them allll the time while driving (of course, then when a mood shift comes on suddenly I'm listening to Norah Jones - if my automotive music tastes were ever to be analyzed, I'd be put away for sure >.<)
Fun topic, Kizuna...I'm afraid my studying has once again been diverted and now I'm off to watch more clips on youtube LOL

Haha, ok I have to admit I'm not much of a death metal person at all but this show is really funny and I think I have almost compleatly fallen in love with it. My boyfriend introduced me to the song Duncan Hills Coffee last year but more recently he's shown me some clips from the show and I have to say that I am now hooked. And there is a character on the show that I absloutly adore! Toki Wartooth. ;D I am now in anticipation for the show to return so I can watch new episodes of it and I haven't even seen alot of the old ones!
