Looks like we are almost at 1,000 members. Too bad it seems like most of them aren't on here any more!

Yes, I know. A lot of people who join either don't post at all or have only posted a few times. Some will stay and post regularly for a few months, maybe even a year or more and then they just disappear forever. Some past members will pop in from time to time to see what's going on and to say hi but then are gone again for who knows how long. That's been my experience of it in the past three and a half years I've been a member. Of course I can't really complain because usually this forum is pretty active and I do love it here, but I do wish that we would have more members stay longer. There are only a select few on here like that.

I try to post as often as I can, but I have noticed that there's a lot of member but only a few posting. Why join if you don't intend to post? I mean, the forum is open to non-members. Oh well, I intend to stay!

Well, the reason I don't post is because I am painfully shy. I try to visit this site everyday to get any info at all. Sometimes I take the quizzes and vote in the polls or read the fanfics. Unless I am forced to, I am usually very quiet in group settings. I have always been this way. Another reason I don't post is because I have read of horrible arguments between forum members, on this and other sites. I find these type of arguments pointless and disappointing since I come to these sites to get away from all that negativity.

Hi Merlange, that sounds like a perfectly logical explanation to me, I like to come here to get away from things too. Sorry if any of my previous posts pressured you into explaining yourself, I wasn't trying to enforce anything. I suppose it doesn't really matter if you post in a forum, as long as you're enjoying yourself!

Well, the reason I don't post is because I am painfully shy. It is probably the first time in my life that I can say that everyone is absolutely respectful to everyone so you can express yourself without any fear, I swear. I hope everyone is aware of that. Cait.. you're killing me with your signature+ava..thank you. lol.

Merlange, I completely understand and respect the avoidance of negativity. That's the exact reason I have sworn off the IMDb message boards - it seems that most people on forums have only one goal in mind, which is to slam everybody else and their opinions. I can't fathom it, and refuse to waste my time on it. Luckily, this forum has been comparatively calm, aside from a few incidents, which have been well over a year ago. (whew!) If I may add my 2 cents also on why most people don't post: it's actually very normal. Most members on the majority of forums don't post, even after registering. I've done it myself. That's not to say I wouldn't like more people here to join in our discussions, because I definitely would. Cillian seems to attract a certain breed of fan, most of whom are smart, respectful, artsy, and appreciative of the unusual. Another factor here has been the subject matter. I have known one or two people personally who adore Cillian, and I have nudged them in the direction of this forum. But they have complained to me that it seemed to them that what was being discussed here was anything but Cillian, and that they saw no need to join because of that. Makes sense to me, and I couldn't really argue it at the time. Example - if I go to a horse racing forum, I'm there to talk about the Triple Crown and synthetic tracks vs dirt, not baking cookies. LOL. It's a perfectly logical and sensible argument to visit a forum for the subject of the forum itself. Though since the Cillian news has picked up lately, I believe I can say with accuracy that Cillian is the main focus once more. Maybe I should nudge those friends again... Anyway, I agree - everyone has a right to enjoy the forum exactly as they wish to, as long as they are respectable to others. And if they just want to read, rather than post, that's cool too. But.... if we all were lurkers, there would be nothing to read... Just a thought.

Great to see us with over 1,000 members. I can definitely appreciate why people join forums and don't post- especially if they're shy. And i understand completely about the arguments being off-putting. I joined a band's forum a few years ago and even though bit was pretty busy back then, everyone got on really well. It was just full of chat and people laughing and making a jokes and discussing the band. Now though, it's completely different. The atmosphere has just changed and that feeling of us all being one big online family is gone. There's loads more arguments and people just sniping at each other over differences of opinion. I hate the way it's changed- nearly all of the old members who i loved to chat too have stopped posting or hardl ever visit anymore. And to be honest neither do I, it's just not the same as it used to be. As for this place though... this place is my second home. I love it here, all the members who post are always really nice and obliging to each other, and we have a bit of craic. I don't remember any big arguments taking place, i know we did have a trouble maker last year- as Pisces already mentioned, but aside from that, we're all just here to appreciate Cillian's work and discuss it.

At first I didn't really post a lot as well, previous fora scared me away a little and besides I'm still not that sure about the quality of my English - for I'm still Dutch. I'm even more sure at expressing myself in Irish, haha.

I love doing forums, really...except sometimes my sarcasm gets the best of me and I say something which will, in turn, piss somebody off...so I'm always nervous when I join forums--but I love you guys! You're all awesome!

I am Dutch too and would really like to participate in all the discussions and the 'talkingtopics' about him, but I've been a fan for a year now(not very long) and I'm afraid I say something stupid and then everyone disagrees with me. But I'm trying to post more often (:
