There might be a bit of a spoiler in this. mainly Leon's age so if you have yet to watch the movie and don't want to know anything... well you better keep out...
Anyway, a certain scene in the movie inspired this and if you've seen I hope you can see what I meant...
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
When his usually very reliable and stealthy black cruiser broke down in the worst of all places his hand harshly banged against the steering wheel. This couldn’t be happening; this shouldn’t be happening… and why now when his shift was just about to end? Worst of all he knew too well it could be a trap and someone would be waiting to do him in. One Timekeeper less to deal with he could practically hear them snicker.
Raymond Leon also knew he couldn’t stay in the car and eventually time out so he slowly opened the door and hopped out tempted to give it a kick on his way out he quickly scanned his surroundings. It seemed he was lucky and no one was there…
He walked as fast as he could; earlier that day the usually agile 75 year old had managed to twist his knee during a chase down. Raymond Leon wasn’t going to make something as minor as pain stop him; it would get him killed and after having kept himself alive by the skin of teeth it would be beyond stupid.
He was about to course out loud when the pain finally got the better of him and he had to stop and bend over trying to regain the breath that had been knocked out of him. Damn!
That’s it, you’re gone now he thought and bit into his dry lip as he had to walk slowly on. He was a sitting target and he was sure he could feel their eyes on him. Walking on that filthy street stepping in all sorts of litter he tried his best not to think back of what kind of life he had lead, not to think of growing up in the ghetto or all the cases he had witnessed, the dead bodies piling up on him making him immune to all the death these streets reeked of… He was simply doing his work; he was doing what kept him out of the statistics.
Hi blue eyes widened when he saw a shadow move fast towards him and he tried to reach for his handgun for protection; he had not planned on going down without a fight at least.
“Don’t shoot!” a feminine voice shrieked and he now made her out, a slender female who looked honestly frightened by the sight of the armed leather clad man who to her looked like the end of her already numbered days, or rather the hours that she had left.
He never let the gun down; knowing too well how smart people in Dayton were and how they’d rather than anything conspire against a timekeeper like himself.
“Move” he regained his cool and told her coldly she was shivering and he saw her double over. He figured she had timed out but the green flashing told him she hadn’t.
Still keeping his weapon drawn he kicked her softly with his leather boot and he saw her grab her stomach hard and moan in pain.
“Get up” he ordered as his eyes were again scanning the surroundings.
“Help” she moaned faintly and heaved a sigh. “Take, take my time” she moaned clinging hard to her stomach with her hand as her face twisted in pain.
Leon walked away but heard her whimpers increase
“Please” she cried “Please take it” she cried between her obvious pain attacks.
“I’m not stupid” he turned around and saw her cough up a splatter of blood. “Where are they?” he asked her harshly trying not to be impressed by the gory sight.
“Who?” she whimpered
“The people who told you to do that so they have a clear shot” he hissed and she coughed another time with the same bloody outcome.
“Kill me” she begged looking up at him with teary eyes. He cringed at her. When he looked at her clock he saw she had 13 hours left. He glanced at his own. He had an hour and a half left; not enough time to make it back to the headquarters and he knew it too well.
“I want to…” she was cut off by her coughing “die” she finished her sentence and Leon swallowed hard. “Take my time” she looked into his eyes before she had to close hers in pain.
“I don’t get it” he said utterly not understanding why she wanted to waste her time...
She waved her hand towards himself tying to reach for his.
“I can’t take your time” he let her know but she kept wavering her hand.
It was no proud moment when Leon finally grabbed her arm and let her time float into his system replenishing his own clock. She had a somewhat peaceful smile on her lip, even when her body jolted as her heart stopped beating. Her eyes closed forever and her once glowing green clock was now a dull purple.
Leon wasn’t safe yet, but now he had the chance to make it all the way to the headquarters without timing out first…
