The other lovely Irish actor in my life grew up in the same years just a few miles away, in County Kerry. I often wonder what's in the water in that part of Ireland... ;D Michael Fassbender was born in Germany to a German father and an Irish mother, but thry moved back when he was a toddler. After years as a struggling young actor, he got some recognition at last and from Hunger (co-scripted by our own Enda Walsh) he has done some impressive work. As Cillian, Michael is a lot more than a pretty face and as Cillian he possesses a powerful talent, a beautiful mind, a very sexy sense of humour, a boyish smile and a heartwarming curiosity and respect for the world around him. Hope they eventually manage to do At Swim Two Birds so they'll be in a movie together at last. If you're interested, this is my Facebook page, in Italian and English, it's quite crowded, lively and chatty. Lots of pics and links and even intelligent discussion. www.facebook.com/MichaelFassbenderItaly

Ah Michael is jus genius! I adore him too. The interviews with him and McAvoy were just so cute- two of my favourite actors besides Cillian. I still haven't seen Iglorious Basterds but i have it on DVD. I've seen him in Hunger, X-Men and Jane Eyre and he is brilliant- plus,i just can't get enough of his smile! It lights up my day, just like James Franco's. My favourite smiles! Michael James Heath Jamie Robert And of course the man in my sig- Ezra. Love the way the corners of his mouth turn up slightly. So cute. I'll join your FB page too.

Oh! I like a lot his work as an actor. He is very talented and sexy of course. I've seen a few days ago the movie "Shame" and it was an interpretation masterpiece, really! Ireland must have something special in the air... this isn't normal... I need to find an Irish or a Scottish boyfriend, that's for sure! LOL BTW, I'm joining the facebbok page just now!

As I mentioned before somewhere, I also love Fassbender. That guy is magnificent... I don't want to sound somehow primitive or lewd but that man has a look in his face... pure sex. But also sweet and vulnerable and deep at the same time. Hard to describe... It depends on the person he's playing of course. But he just seems to have both in his eyes, tenderness and roughness... Apart from this I adore his ability to really live the character he's playing with all his energy ! It's stunning. Like Cillian he's one of the best actors to date. That kind of actor that really becomes the person he's playing.

Then you ask yourself how come two actors of this stature grew up in the same years in the space of a few miles....in a small island in Europe. What did they put in the water?!?

Sorry to intrude to this thread as a non-fan. I'm eagerly waiting for A Dangerous Method to be released on dvd in my country. I assume you've all seen it, since you're into Fassbender? Comments, please? Is it worth waiting?

Alisa, you don't have to be a Fassbender fan to post in this thread. Every thread is open to everyone, and every opinion or standpoint is welcome. As I said in my last post in the Cilly collab wish thread: I have yet to see A Dangerous Method. So I can't give you actually a review or honest opinon about it. The only thing I can say is -- and forgive me the shallowness of this comment -- although I hate moustaches on men, I have to admit, Fassbender can wear it and still looks good!

he's a good actor, but all I see when I do look at him is...well..."You're hung like a horse dear sir." I think that's the real reason why his career shot up. But hey! he's cool...it's not like he can't act--he definitely can, and I put A Dangerous Method on my netflix queue...can't wait

Poor Michael, this thing is starting to sound quite annoying. I mean, in Europe we're quite accustomed to nakedness in movies, it's really not a big deal When I look at Michael I see a great actor, not a part of his....er....anatomy. I do not understand the fascination, it's probably something cultural that eludes me....and the rest of Europe. After the zillionth question about the nude scenes, director Steve McQueen lost his temper and raged at an interviewer fortunately for the poor sod, Michael was there to save the day. I prefer to think of him as a professional and a very polite and funny human being rather than a piece of meat. Speaking of A Dangerous Method, it's a very talky movie. You must really love dialogue to enjoy it, and to love character analysis. Personally I loved it, but I gotta say my philosophy teacher in high school was a huge Jung enthousiast and she told us the tale of Jung and Sabina countless times, so I knew what they were talking about.... If you want to see Michael's sheer brilliance, this is what I would suggest to watch: - Shame: gee, not for the nude scenes, but for the raw force he puts on screen. It's not a feelgood movie, he's going to carve a hole into your chest and he's damn good at it. I adored this movie, but I understand it's not easy to follow and probably not everyone's cup of tea. Still he should have won that Oscar, I've never seen anything like that in a movie. When he won at the Venice Film Festival the theatre came down with cheering. - Hunger: the first movie by Steve McQueen. Another one that's hard to watch. Michael did miracles as dying Bobby Sands. Plus, Enda Walsh co-wrote it and it co-stars Liam Cunningham. - X-Men: for light entertainment but it's a very good movie and he will steal your heart as Erik. I went from "who the heck is this Fassbender person who dares to play my Magneto?" to "oh holy cow!" in about 10 minutes - Fish Tank: veeery gloomy British movie. Interesting character, not your average knight in a shiny armour, still compelling - Jane Eyre: if you're exhausted after all this gloom, he's a pleasure to watch as Rochester. Yes, he's 10 years too young, yes he's way too handsome, but he nails it. One of my favorite literary characters, I thought he was miscast and I was wrong. It was genius casting.

Thanks, Leyla! I think I'll watch Shame, Hunger and Fish Tank. X-Men I've already seen. To reply to what you said about Shame in the other thread: My parents live 400km away, none of my close friends are oversensitive, and I'll watch it with with my boyfriend, who likes arthouse films, and Fassbender, so I'll have the perfect conditions for it. I've been meaning to watch Hunger for a long time. I think I'll buy it rather than rent. Enda Walsh and Liam Cunningham are two good reasons for that decision, but it also sounds like something I'd watch more than once. Zombiekitten: Oh, I don't mind talking about shallow things. For me mustache is ok with a beard, but not alone, unless one has an exceptionally charismatic presence to go with it. It's a period film as well as an interpersonal drama with psychological theme, so I'll set my mind to the quirks of the period before watching it.

I agree, he was perfect as Rochester and even though he was too young i don't think he was too handsome. He still has a rugged, weather beaten type face that means he never looks too polished or too pretty. Alisa i hope you like Hunger- it is a truly amazing movie and Micheal is outstanding. The one take scene between him and Liam Cunningham is something i'll never forget. And i still can't comprehend how he could've been so damn skeletal and yet be healthy enough to work and make the movie. It's quite scary, a completely haunting movie. I didn't get to see Shame or A Dangerous Method in the cinema which i was really annoyed about. Shame is out on DVD already but it's quite expensive so i've held off buying it so far. I'm with you on the nudity thing though Leyla, i've seen plenty of it and i never see why people make a big deal of it. I think it's really strange how a lot of parents these days let their children watch films that are full of violence and killing but the minute they see someone start to remove some clothing they're throwing fits and complaining to TV channels for showing inappropriate movies etc. Nudity is completey natural and people need to relax about it, i mean when i was a child it was never kept a secret, we never even locked the bathroom door. I remember being in the bathroom while my dad or mam were showering or bathing and playing "I Spy with my Little Eye" and other silly games with them! I'm still waiting for A Dangerous Method to be released too, my friend didn't like it at all. She said that even though Keira Knightley played the character really well, she was just annoying! I love Keira though and i never understood why people slated her so much at the start of her career so i'm really looking forward to seeing this. Michael, Keira and Viggo!
