Hello, people of the Cillian Forum! I've been thinking about starting this thread for a while now and I couldn't find one like that. Sorry if there is, I missed it. Anyway, if you are a musician, a singer, a DJ, if you like to do covers, remixes or create your own songs, this is the place to share it with the rest of us! It's always good to have some feedback about what you do and knowing the members of this forum, it will be honest and constructive criticism. That's the best an artist can get! -- I'll start with two songs. I've recorded them with a very old microphone two years ago so the sound quality is not that good but it's good enough to hear the music The first one is a cover I made for the imaginary end credits of a fiction I wrote with a little help from a friend. The fiction was about Ireland, as you can guess, and the song I covered is "The Wind that Shakes the Barley". I first recorded the guitar part, then added a tin-whistle part and I thought it wasn't enough so I recorded a third part with the tin-whistle. It was pretty hard to sync the three of them together afterwards, and the Tin Whistle I used was very cheap so sometimes it's a bit off-key. Sorry about that. Oh and, except for the guitar part, all of it was improvised on the moment... (Please, don't mind the video, just listen to the music. The actors were pretty much all chosen by my friend, except for Cillian Murphy of course haha, and the "vampire" is not a real vampire, that's just his name xD) The second one is a song I wrote about two OC we used to play with another friend. We did forum roleplay (on a forum based off the Twilight Saga even if we don't like the books and the movies) and the two of them had nothing to do with each other, but their relationship grew all by itself. My character is an irish (obviously!) werewolf who basically spent his whole life with wild wolves, and he was very interested by the Bible when he came to contact with the human world (hence all the Biblical references in the song). My friend's character is a french vampire, very mean and evil who likes to make other people suffer. The two of them fell in love (isn't that odd) and the song is sang by my character, for her character. STRONG LANGUAGE AND BAD ENGLISH WARNING haha I know my french accent is very thick so if you don't understand what I'm mumbling (I won't blame you for that LOL) the lyrics are in the description on the youtube page. The instrument I used in this one is the ukulele. I wanted it to be like a "ritournelle", very repetitive, the kind of music that drives you crazy and makes you want to run around in circles while waving your arms like a maniac. Because my character is pretty messed up in his head when he sings this. Hope you like them, and I can't wait to see what you guys will share with us! ;D

Ahhh that's lovely! I really like the first track, it sounds so organic and honest I love it! The melodies and harmony are gorgeous, you have a very musical ear! How did you record your music? I do make music too but I don't want to divulge my stuff on here because it connects too many dots on me and I prefer to stay reasonably low key on here!

Why, thank you very much Wikkleshamrocks for taking the time to listen and give me feedback Actually the first track had little to do with musical ear, I just found the main melody on the Tin Whistle and the other one is just the Third (I don't know if this is the proper word, in french we call it "la tierce" and it means there always is a three note interval between the two voices). Once you find it, it's pretty easy to stick with it. And the tin whistle is very easy to learn (it was pretty awesome to meet an actual professional whistle player when I was in Ireland, he gave me a lot of advice too!) I use the freeware "Audacity" to record and synchronize the music. It's easy to use and it can do a lot of cool things like volume control, different tracks, voice adjustments, sound effects... And you can save your final work on .mp3, you just need to download a small plugin (it's free, too). Don't mind if I ask what kind of music you do? You don't have to be precise, I'm just curious Anyway thanks again!

Ahh you are still musical! Not just technical. I produce multitrack, orchestrate & compose but only by ear. Sad story of my old school kicking the music curriculum in my final years through lack of students taking it up. So I missed out on the chance to get to music college and beyond. It didn't stop me making and sharing music though. I play keyboards and a wikkle bit of guitar but hardly enough to understand a guitar fully. I've used a few different editing suites and studios etc. Nuendo, Magix and I do as much real time as I can even digitally! I love YAMAHA synths. Did some demo programming for them a while back. I can't write songs... They end up being too cheesy! ;D xx

Shamrocks, I absolutely love your style. It's great, and your sense of musicality is incredible. Your tunes are so nice and they send so many images in my head, it's really great. My favorite is, so far, "Behind The Sky". It's so cool... I love it, really. It sounds like a movie soundtrack. Brings back many, many good memories. Positive music is positive. The songs I write are darker, because I usually use music to express my darkest moments. It helps me to get better when I really don't feel good. There is a song I'm fond of, not because of its melody or instrumental or anything, it's because I've used one of the darkest moment of my life to create something full of hope and good things. Sometimes I listen to it when I'm feeling sad, and it reminds me that even when you're having a bad time, you can still turn it to a good time if you try. There is always something good to learn from anything. I wrote this song the day my friend Camille was burried, almost 4 years ago, on my way back from a small party we threw at a friend's house, like she asked us to do. Wrote it in 10min, recorded it in 5min (4 months later), posted it on facebook at 4am and made a lot of people cry xD It was written to be a very repetitive song so that people could focus on the lyrics instead of the melody. I used the ukulele and... My voice. xD Here's the link to the video on Facebook. I changed the video's settings so even people that are not on Facebook should still be able to watch it. Tell me if there's any problem with the video.

Oh wowwwwwwww Jinx that has got to be the saddest song I have ever heard, especially since you just explained the heartbreaking story. It made me cry, there's something so different about losing someone like that, not that other pain is nothing but it's a real pure grief isn't it and you captured that wholly! So much love there! Wow! I have to compare your simplicity and sweetness to Cillian's little song So New and your sweet voice melody and arpeggio is so honest. You are like a mini female John Lennon! That sounds funny but you know what I mean! ;D Thanks for you lovely comments too sweetie! Massive hugs! I really appreciate your support and ear! Well both of them and your perspectives, it's so interesting to hear how the music affects you, that's what it's all about, evoking energies in another person/audience and let them get from it what they find! It's always surprising! I write to cause visual thoughts for the listener, I try! I am seriously blushing! I am a little bit embarrassed of my cheesy guitar leads and loads of other bits make me cringe! I have moved on with my style but I have no decent keyboards to create new stuff on at the moment.

Ah there is that thread and the link to your music, Shamrocks ! I was already searching for it for I wanted to say something about your music. I listened to it while back as you once shared it via tumblr. And I just re-listened to it again. It's actually a kind of music I love !! For I adore nearly every kind of "synthie music" (sorry for the lack of a better word LOL) In my opinion there's something very strong and moving and emotional in synthie melodies. It always moves my heart and soul when I'm hearing such stuff. It's dream-like and spheric and seems to stretch ones mind to worlds beyond reality Btw: Is that your voice on some tracks?? I especially love "Vanilla" "Prey" and "Drive" With the track "Prey" in particular I really could almost imagine a tiger or leopard stalking his prey and then suddenly attacking it while the predators heart is beating faster in excitement !! That track has really a great energy to it and also its dramatic and has a nice balance between quietness (luring) and action (attack) OH wow what talented musical people we have here in the forum !! Jinx .... oh my god that song... It's so moving, emotional, quiet, tender and sad. And the lyrics are beautiful yet heartbreaking... But it's something wonderful, and helpful, a gift I would say, if you can soothe your pain with music, if you can convey your feelings and your sorrow into music. I heard your grief and also the love you felt for Camille in every syllable and in every nuance of your gentle voice... Thank you so much for sharing that intimate, personal song. Also Jinx I have the deepest respect and admiration for your ability to write songs and play instruments. I'm completly unmusical myself (but I love to sing) and adore every person who is able to create something musical out of their own minds. And these darn musical scores... I never got them, really... LOL For me it's like Chinese

Ahhh thanks Zobmz! ;D ;D ;D I never thought to burn you a copy while you were staying with me! I'm so glad you like the music! If you listen carefully to the bass line in Drive it has a likeness to the Mission Impossible Theme... on purpose because the track is a bit bonkers and it's a semi-spoof to the action flicks. Hehe. Also I don't know about Jinx...? but I don't read or write music theory, I just play by ear. I use the keyboard and my ear as a guide. When I was a little girl, my grandad had this really cool Casio Keyboard with all the fancy effects and buttons. I just switched it on and randomly decided to play Stevie Wonder, I Just Called To Say I Love You with rhythms, chords and frilly bits! LOL I also would jam to cooler songs like Roxy Music ;D ;D ;D We have a tremendous concentration of artistic talent in this forum! Across the board! Illustrators, audio visual talents, digital art, writers, fine arts, textiles, crafts, musicians, performing arts... the list goes on! I do believe Cillian's loyal followers are from Mount Helicon or something! ;D

I have to compare your simplicity and sweetness to Cillian's little song So New and your sweet voice melody and arpeggio is so honest. You are like a mini female John Lennon! That sounds funny but you know what I mean! ;D Omg, I don't think anybody has ever made me such a compliment before! Woah, Cillian and Lennon? I'm blushing madly at the moment ! XD Thank you, I'm sorry if I made you cry, once again it's not what I aimed for when I wrote the song. Thank you Thanks for you lovely comments too sweetie! Massive hugs! I really appreciate your support and ear! Well both of them and your perspectives, it's so interesting to hear how the music affects you, that's what it's all about, evoking energies in another person/audience and let them get from it what they find! I am a little bit embarrassed of my cheesy guitar leads and loads of other bits make me cringe! I have moved on with my style but I have no decent keyboards to create new stuff on at the moment. Write to cause visual thoughts for the listener, you do that very well dear! I am not easily carried away, let me tell you, but the first seconds of your tracks are enough for me to feel like I'm somewhere else entirely! You are very talented, and your guitar leads are not cheesy! They're really nice! Trust me, I'm a guitarist haha ;D OH wow what talented musical people we have here in the forum !! Jinx .... oh my god that song... Wow, well thank you for listening It was pretty hard at first to start singing, and you can hear the knot in my throat at the beginning of the song, but thankfully it got better after that. I could have recorded it again, but I was experiencing feelings so deep during that recording, I couldn't bring myself to do it again, for fear I would lose it and start crying. xD Also Jinx I have the deepest respect and admiration for your ability to write songs and play instruments. I'm completly unmusical myself (but I love to sing) and adore every person who is able to create something musical out of their own minds. And these darn musical scores... I never got them, really... LOL For me it's like Chinese Well, it really is not that hard. Sheet-music is actually easier to follow than when you try to play by ear. I do prefer to play by ear for it's more challenging, but sometimes it's nice to rely on scores You should give it a try, it's always good to master a bit of this aspect when it comes to music. When I was 5, I started to learn the clarinet and had to follow very boring classes of music theory every day. But I'm glad I did, because even if I'm more confident when I play by ear, I still know how to read and understand sheet music. Really, you should try. I don't read or write music theory, I just play by ear. LOL I also would jam to cooler songs like Roxy Music ;D ;D ;D Stevie Wonder, awwwwww !! ;D This is so awesome ! Wait. You mean you've never taken any music lessons? We have a tremendous concentration of artistic talent in this forum! Across the board! Illustrators, audio visual talents, digital art, writers, fine arts, textiles, crafts, musicians, performing arts... the list goes on! I do believe Cillian's loyal followers are from Mount Helicon or something! ;D So true ! It's really amazing to see how talented people are in what they do, I'm so impressed ! Go Team Cillian ! We are not that many, but quality over quantity as they say

Ahhhhh Jinx, you know what... thanks so much for your lovely feed back! It's just what's needed right now, a bit of love and light. You know where you said you recorded the first take only with your song? I have heard many an artist and recording engineer say the first take is always the best! It's the raw and genuine quality you can't match. When you start to be the musical perfectionist and tweaking stuff afterwards, you end up concentrating on the technical aspects and can dim the emotion. There is an incredible amount of emotion in that first take and yes I can agree with you not being able to muster the strength to sing a second time after such a powerful outlet. Bless you sweet chikkie. *Hug * ;D I never had the chance at school to major in music. When I was little I wanted to go to music college and beyond but when I took my options for the last 2 years in school, only 3 students including me applied to take music so they dropped the curriculum. So I couldn't progress. It is sad but it didn't stop me making music! Yey! Go Team Cillian! ;D ;D ;D
