Well, dubstep is becoming the new big thing, though it's been around since the 90s. And it can have several different forms, whether it's the minimalistic, dark, and atmospheric stuff, or the stuff with heavier beats, more abrasive bass, bass drops and "filthy" wobbles.
I'll admit, it took a while for this to grow on me. My first real introduction to this was the Korn song "Get Up" which featured Skrillex doing electronic beats on the song, which were the only parts that interested me. After some time and listens, I just fell in love with Skrillex, and started looking for others.
My main dubstep artists right now...
Skrillex deadmau5 Koan Sound Knife Party Zedd Datsik Swedish House Mafia Unicorn Kid
What are your thoughts? Like, hate, or curious?

Wonderful thread, because funnily I came arcoss dubstep only recently and I have to say I really, really like it !! Particularly in techno tunes. In general I love electro elements in music, and dubstep adds something very special to every song! I also came across Skrillex while browsing youtube, and I quite like them. Haven't listened to many songs of them so far, but I definitely will. Great that you wrote some dubstep artists down! That will make it easier for me to search after this music.

I can totally understand why people like dubstep. It is catchy and sometimes it reminds me of those "music doses" my therapist used to give me. Brings out a lot of different feelings and images, it stimulates the imagination and creativity. People say it is just noise but I think all kinds of music deserve a moment of quiet and focused listening. Yes, all kinds of them. Even if it's weird and unappealing at first.
I'll be honest, I don't like dubstep too much.
It's cool to have a nice beat like that when you're doing something else (like killing monsters in video games, very stimulating) but I won't listen to dubstep just for the sake of the music like I do with classical music or a few bands I like. Most of my friends are all about dubstep, the rest of them are feeling like they are crusaders that must destroy it (or if not, make fun of the ones who like it in a very mean way). I stand in the middle, waving a peace flag.
Like I always do ;D

I recently saw this video on German TV and I really liked the song (I think it's quite popular at the moment ) also because of the dubstep elements.

And about "noise"... Weren't people always terming new music styles as "noise" over the ages? LOL Sure, dubstep is just one element which can be added to different styles of music, (I'm not a music expert, so correct me if I am wrong LOL). But I think it depends on the creativity with which the artist is using this element. And making fun of people just because they like a certain type of music is... strange, even inexplicable, IMO because music is something so subjectiv -- at least it is to me -- and you can't actually "choose" which music you like. It's not a matter of deciding. Either the music does something to your heart and soul, or not.

Lol, wow, I'm really glad to see a diversity of opinions on dubstep. Admittedly yeah, it's not for everyone, and it does take a while for the genre to grow on you. But I love it. ;D @ Zombie Kitten: Oh yeah, that's the song on the Internet Explorer 9 commercial! It kinda feels like a fusion of easy listening (from the lyrics and beginning verse) and dubstep (at least in the bridge and chorus). Also check this out: electricdaisycarnival.com/LasVegas/music.phpIt's the list of artists set to appear at te Electric Daisy carnival, a carnival/rave concert event at Las Vegas. Aside form some good dubstep artists, there's also a lot of house types and others. Definitely sample some!

Oh wow, so THAT'S what the music in my favorite commercial is called! I have never heard of the term "dubstep." But I actually liked the music in this commercial... though I think I appreciate it as a whole; the way the music and the visuals go together. Not sure I would want to slap on headphones and listen to this on its own... hmmmmm... I could see it being something energizing in a club, if I was in the mood for it.
