I have the book that contains this short story, and hope to read it sometime in what's left of this weekend. It's only 30 pages. If I hadn't been so damned busy all week, I'd have been able to get to it way before now. As it is, the book has traveled from my office desk to the coffee table (meant to read it in the living room but fell asleep), to the bedroom dresser (moved it there, thinking I would read it before bed but again, fell asleep, lol)... so it's slowly making its way to being cracked and read. Will let you all know how it is when I finally read it!

I can't wait for this! I absolutely loved Melanie Laurent in Inglorious Basterds - what a film that is! Pure Tarantino! Well, Christian Carion's other film he's working on sounds really good too by the synopsis... En Mai, Fais Ce Qu'il Plait I really want to see that too! I think Melanie and Cillian will make a great pairing if the film holds them in the same scenes. Another couple of French actresses I would love to see him work with are Emmanuelle Seigner and Eva Green. I think Emmanuelle could almost be his sister in looks!

Agree, Shamrocks, Melanie is really a great actress (saw her also in Inglorious Basterds ;D) as well as a beautiful woman. She has a special sort of beauty. Not the average type of beauty, which I love. Would be nice to see her together with Cilly. Hey, wow, you're right about Emmanuelle Seigner!! She really looks as if she was Cillian's sister ! @ Pisces, I can't wait to hear your opinion on this short story. ;D

Really quick before I log in for work: I read this last night, and I can confirm that the character in the story is without a doubt an incorrigible womanizer! ;D This role would be something entirely new for Cillian to play; he'd be required to be both heartless and seductively irresistible. It's hard to describe what this story actually IS... one could view it as painfully romantic, or one could see it as a study in unhealthy celeb obsession; I suppose it would depend on the viewer themselves to determine that. Either way, it's from the woman's point of view, and it's wall-to-wall angst. Now, that's if they don't change the ending for the film. Because at the heart of this story is a very harsh, hard truth, and if that's altered, it would be a different story altogether. I hope they leave it as it is. One good change is that Cillian is playing a rock or pop star - that gives the story more relevance today and WOW is he going to be good in this. I don't want to give too much away about it, but if anyone wants further, spoilery details, feel free to PM me!

Little tidbit that I loved from the story that describes his character very well (it's all in first person, from the woman's POV): Later, before long indeed, I was to learn that this was a way you had of looking at all women with whom you came in contact. It was a caressive and alluring glance, at once enfolding and disclothing, the glance of the born seducer. He's also described as "boyish", with a "bright and lively face" and "youthful hair." The character is named only "R" ; we're introduced to him when he's around 25 years old, and the story spans the years from there, ending when he is 41. I would love to read the script to see how much of the original story will remain intact, or whether it's merely an inspiration for something a little different.

I really like the idea as well, Bunnie! I've thought a lot about this today, and there are some potential issues with the story straining plausibilty at some points. Also, the entire movie will depend on Cillian's charm level. I'm not kidding. The fulcrum of the story is the woman's obsession with him, in the face of his heartlessness. He's not wicked by any means; he's just indifferent because he's been involved with so many women. We have to be able to understand what keeps her THAT fascinated with him - if we can't buy into what SHE'S buying into, this movie is doomed from the start. Having said that, I believe Cillian can pull that sort of appeal off with no problem. But I really, really want to see the script. Because they may have changed things from the original story. As it stands though, it looks like he will be turning up the charisma to eleven in this movie. And oh, there are some lovemaking scenes that are likely to be in the movie; they're not gratuitous, they're pivotal to the story.

Awwwwwwwwww !!! Pisces, thank you so much for bringing "flesh" to this project with your notes about the short story!! I LOVE that tidbit you shared !! OMG can't wait to see Cillian interpreting this role. I know that especially YOU were longing to see him in the role of a womanizer and this premise sounds really like this could be a damn sexy as well as interesting role. Indeed we haven't seen Cillian yet in such a role. Okay, Jackson comes VERY close to this. But it's another kind of character. In the context of Cillian playing a womanizer in this movie, I have these wonderful photoshoots of the "Clahs Magazine" coming to my mind... Cillian wearing shades and neat clothes and stuff... OMG please! I'm a bit torn between reading the story or leaving it... mmmmhhhh. I know the original story takes part in another time, but yet, it sounds interesting. Maybe I have even read that once in school! The name of the author sounds very familiar to me. How many pages does the story have, Pisces ?? CB for sharing the info and the tidbits !!! ;D

I'm so elated. OMG!! That sounds really really intriguing. Not only appealing to watch for the erotic factor but also for the pleasure to see what Cillian's makes out of this role with his acting abilities. My heart is already pounding at the thought of Cillian impersonating this man. Not to mention the lovemaking scenes.... UNF

Zombie, I just looked and the story is 40 pages in this book (Selected Stories by Stefan Zweig). I have indeed always wanted to see Cillian tackle a playboy-type of role - and that's exactly what this is! In the wrong hands, this character could be very one-dimensional, but I think Cillian will be able to give him an essential depth and allure. And yes, those lovemaking scenes are of utmost importance. The entire story pretty much centers around them; so much so that I can't see how they can just remove them for decorum's sake, lol. They're HUGELY critical. Thank you for the CB! I only wish I had the script so I could be a bit more informed about what they are actually going to be filming. As I said, there may have been major changes. But I think a lot of people will be intrigued by both the story and the completely different character Cillian will be playing.
