I saw the play at the weekend and it really was quite an experience which has given me a new found respect for Cillian. He is definitely a man who is not afraid to take risks in order to stretch himself as an actor which is one of the themes of the play I think - the dangers of becoming too comfortable in a mundane existence that imprisons you and fearing change; yet all the time yearning for something more which gives life meaning.
The acting was superb from all three, I really enjoyed Mikel Murfi's performance. The production was also very good, I especially enjoyed the music (Rick Astley got played at one point) which facilitated the comedy as well as the foreboding atmosphere.
It was funny, sad, scary, strange and deep and I have yet to fully digest the meaning of Ballyturk as it is definitely material rich for interpretation.
