Cold Countain (never saw the movie) had Cillian Murphy and Nicole Kidman in it when it's about the American Civil war. It should have been an all American cast to get the realism of the matter. Like if you're doing a movie about the American South (God Bless Dixie lol!), don't you think it would be better if true southerners were in the cast?

sorry i don't agree. get the best people for the job i say. i don't care where they are from. jude did an amazing job, and so did nicole. cillian's scene was really touching and he was wonderful. natalie portman (the one american in the scene) did nothing for me and i usually love her. but renee z hands down was awesome. i think she's from texas. jack white was awesome (detroit).
remember, during the civil war, americans were still pretty fresh off the boat. it's all about the melting pot!
hey! renee's dad in cold mountain was frank from 28 days later! funny little six degrees there.

Well how would an Austrailan or Irish audience feel is Americans played roles dipicting major events of their country? I kind of think it would be better if the cast were natives of their own lands. It gives it that patriotic touch.

Well Like I said I never seen the movie. I just found out that Cillian was in it. I'm more into action and comediy movies. But really finding out that a lot of the cast were non-American (and I know I'm going to get a slap for saying this lol!) but it seems like "blasphemy" to America! lol! lol! I just think it would have been better if the cast were Americans. I mean because if there were a movie dicpicting another country and played by an American cast, citizens of that country would get mad.

jk rowling insisted that all of her actors were british, and i think that is totally fine. but if you can do the accent, that's fine with me. it's when they can't do the accent. for example:
kevin costner - robin hood, prince of thieves keanu reeves - much ado about nothing, dracula...poor keanu needs to quit it. winona ryder - dracula. god she's awful.
but the very english vivian leigh played scarlett o'hara pretty well, don't you think? see the movie and come back to us. i would love to see if you change your mind.

Being patriotic to that degree is ridiculous. I agree with zulie. Getting the best people for the job will get you the best cast, and therefore, a better movie.
By that logic, Cillian shouldn't have been in Red Eye, and most people I've talked to (even people who aren't big fans) about it say that he carried the movie.
I honestly think that most people don't give a damn where the actors are from, and the people who do are, no offense, a little racist.

Keanu is the man! lol! (the reason I LOVE the Matrix) Personally he's number 1 and Cillian is #2 only because I just found out about Cillian this year.

well they're called actors for a reason - they're acting a part - & if you didn't know where they were from you wouldn't know they weren't American. Who cares - more Cillian please.

Yeah, it doesn't matter where they're from. The only thing that matter is if they do a good job.

The actors in the movie did a great job and it didn't matter that they aren't American.

It doesn't matter to me.
Besides, GWAPE was about a Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer and also names like Griet and Pieter are really Dutch. But was teh cast Dutch? Hack I don't think they even spoke Dutch, I haven't seen it though but still. And I'm Dutch and not at all mad or offended that other not-Dutch people played it. I really don't see why you're amking a problem out of this. As long as teh actors are good, and doing their job good also, then what's the poblem?

The only issue I have with Cold Mountain is the changes they made with some of the characters. Renee's character, Ruby, is suppose to be black. At least she was in the book I read. But who cares? Those eyes, those eyes . . .
