I just watched this again, and I'm still in tears over Capa's inspiring heroism. :-( I know what you mean Cait! Every time I watch that ending, it affects me pretty deeply too. It's very emotionally touching ending, or at least I think it is!

It's very emotionally touching ending, or at least I think it is! It certainly is, I wish this film wasn't so underrated. It's not very often that a film has this effect on me. The first time I watched it, I became fascinated with the sun and I would just stare at it (when it was cloudy of course!) and imagined the possibility of it dying. The storyline in the film may be a bit of a stretch, but a lot of things were actually fairly accurate, so it really makes you think! Plus, Danny Boyle and the actors did a great job with the character creation - they were very convincing, and so dedicated to their mission. They all died heroes of course, but I thought that Capa (obviously), Kaneda (that was an amazing scene), and Mace were especially heroic. Okay, I'm rambling now, I think it's pretty clear that I just love Sunshine.

Me, too! I love this movie. It has a good director, story, plot, and casr. The score by John Murphy is also brilliant. It definitely adds to the mood of the film, especially "Capa's Jump." It gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. More people ought to watch this movie.

It's a beautiful score, and I agree, it really suits the film perfectly.

I've been looking for a copy of the OST in local record stores and I can't find it anywhere. I really like listening to the OST. "Capa's Jump"/"Adagio in D Minor" makes me think about how small we really are in this vast universe.

I remember awhile back seeing pictures of Cillian behind the scenes in some sort of sunshine interview, but never seen the actual video. He's wearing a green sweater standing in front of some black posters that show diagrams of the ship or set. Well I finally found it!!! at 1:52 fliiby.com/file/324702/eiikb9f5nb.html

Thanks for that Disarm! I hadn't seen that before, very interesting indeed! Really liked seeing the tour of the spaceship. I can't believe they could do laundry, haha! ;D

I watched this film online and despite the poor resolution of the images I really liked it! The end was so poignant....
And this Tuesday I will be able to watch the film at the TV, with the resolution that the film deserves!! I felt very stupid when my heart has hastened while the advertisement appeared on the TV....

I watched it for the fourth time yesterday. Four is no big deal, since I have watched all other Cillian movies countless times, but this one is really special for me. It frightens me more than 28 Days Later, and any other horror movie I have seen in my whole life. More than Alien, than the Shining, more than Paranormal Activity and all these movies. Outter space has always been special for me, as far as I can remember. I've always been fascinated by planets and stars, but more than anything, the sun has always been a mystery for me. I've always marvelled at his incredible power, nearly impossible to picture. It is gigantic in our system, but as small as a coin seen from down here. But this movie, it raises all the questions I've always dreaded. Such as "if the sun dies, if God, or Mother Nature, or whatever it is called, decides that it's time for mankind to end, then who are we to decide otherwise?" Pinbaker doesn't scares the **** out of me because he's insane, but because I understand his point of view (even if I don't agree with him and his methods, I'm not a terrorist xD). It is a rather extreme point of view, yes, but I understand it, and I find it more interesting than Mace's for example. To deny one's instinct of survival is really impressive, nearly impossible. The first time I saw this movie, it was my father who took me to the cinema. I remember every bit of it (first encounter with Cillian, of course), from the cold room to the noise of the projector, and the chills that ran down my spine when they enter Icarus 1 (you know, the thing with the flashlights and the faces of the Icarus 1 crew). I was so scared I thought the sun was never going to rise again! xD Clearly it is a really difficult task for me every time I watch it. First, I can't watch it alone, I have to make sure I have someone to live this nightmare with. And every time it's always the same: for days, I keep wondering about all those questions. If the sun dies, and if we had the slightest chance to restart it, would we have the right to do so? I like this movie because it's always a very strong moment for me. Cillian's character, Capa, is the one that disturbs me the most. He seems completely shut down to all emotions, but his eyes say it all. Every time I look at him, I have the impression I'm watching a man taken away by a crowd, by the flood or whatever force strong enough to do so. And the end of the movie is like an epiphany, redemption and all that kind of things I can't name even in my native language. His performance is really outstanding.
Anyway, that's one hell of a long post to say how mixed my feelings are for this movie. But every time I watch it, I feel like I've done something really important, and I remember how sweet it is to watch the stars or daydream during the sunset.
