Well, looks like you got a bit confused with the titles. The Way We Live Now is a miniseries he did back at early 2000's. This is from the Best Time of Our Lives thread. But it's ok, one could get confused, yet it has been given a new title "The Edge of Love", you should go check out the new pics of Cillian onset over at ucillian and the cilliansite

Now I'm gonna confuse it with OTE... just kiddin Back to the thread, I have seen The way we live now only recently and I liked it very much. I think Mathew McFayden was pretty cool too, his character was soo darn funny. And Paul and Hetta were a sweet couple... but u know what I liked best... the part where he's in Mexico ridin a horse. Loved it! Cillian would be a hot cowboy

Resurrecting an ancient thread because I'm watching this for the first time, on my portable DVD player on my commuter train to work, it's actually brightening my dull daily journey to Milan. I have seen only part of episode one for now, but it's absolutely delightful! Trollope's characters are always hilarious...for viciousness, cluelessness or simple embarassment (the actress playing Mrs Melmotte is just amazing!). The cast is obviously impressive, it's quite a group... Cillian has some screen time and he's got such an adorable character, and he's not your average "young lover" type, I've only watched a part, but there is something more complex to him. Take the scene where he half confronts Mr Carbury about him proposing to Hetta. The light in his eyes....wow that was some very subtle acting for one so young.

I read so many reviews (from other people, not actual reviewers) saying he was "miscast"... I'm quite puzzled I haven't read the novel, I know I should, but I can see why he was cast as Paul Montague. A lot of people argue he looked too pretty for someone who should be an engineer, with at least a little working experience. Well, I never thought there was a particular way an engineer should look like ;D he was 24 so the right age, Paul has just a little experience on the field, not that much. And it's definitely not his pretty face that landed him the role, it's IMHO his uncanny ability to look both very young and very innocent, but also smart, curious and driven. Also somewhat dangerous, which is quite intriguing in someone like Paul. Let's admit it, it's a role that would have gone to Keanu Reeves back in the 90s, if it was a Hollywood idea of Trollope. And as much as I like good old Keanu, and I like him a lot, you can see the difference between a young actor who knows his trade and a young actor who....well, tries to do his best, but has no clue. So was Cillian miscast? I think definitely not, he was absolutely brilliant, earning his place in a great cast.

I agree, most certainly not miscast!

I wouldn't say Cillian was miscast, I mean he had to make Hetta fall for him, I don't think she would have fallen for some 'rough' man...
I love Cillian as Paul, I think he plays it quite well and one of my fave scenes has to be either the dance scene or the ending...

I loved the bit with MacFayden. Sir Felix tells him something like "it's awesome being a director, you get paid to do nothing" and he replies "actually I have to work a lot".

Oh, I really love that series and the character Montague! But I hate his girlfriend, LOL the older woman... don't know her name anymore. ;D I don't think either Cillian was miscast. But I haven't read the novel, so I can just tell from the character in the series. And I don't get why an engineer can't look handsome... The look of a human being doesn't determinds his profession LOL But of course, if the character Montague has spent much time under the sun, working outside and stuff, his skin probably would not be as flawless and beautiful as Cillian's

She's Miranda Otto, Eowyn in Lord of the Rings. Very good actress, she successfully managed to be truly hateful....
