No spoilers. I think maybe people were disappointed because they thought it was a film with a message. Actually, it's more like the story of an obsession. I love the theme of debunking, I even joined a very famous Italian debunkers website. Yet Red Lights is not a movie about debunking. Not really. Judging from a storyteller's point of view, the ending is working well. I don't think it's too sudden or "phony" (no pun intended.....ha ha ha). The script is pretty good, though Elizabeth Olsen's character is a bit weak. Maybe she had more screen time in an earlier version? I don't know. She's IMHO the only useless character. The casting was excellent: De Niro is a wonderful choice because Simon Silver has to convey power, mystery and awe and who is better than a legendary movie star? He has to convey a tremendous screen presence with a few words and a limited number of scenes. De Niro has never been one of my favorite actors, but I admit here he's effective. Sigourney Weaver, on the other hand, has always been an hero of mine. When I was 12 I wanted to be like her. She's still pretty amazing and she has great chemistry with Cillian. Yet I think the most difficult casting choice was Tom Buckley himself...you have to find an actor who can convey a lot of emotion, who looks rational, but who possesses a great deal of empathy. Make the character silly or foolish or boorish and all the castle will crumble. One of Cillian's greatest gifts as an actor is, people can feel his emotions. It's exactly the same mechanism that made Sunshine compelling, or that made Inception very moving: you care for his characters because he conveys feelings extremely well. Tom's journey is the viewer's journey, that's what I really loved about Red Lights.

Yes Leyla I totally agree! Cillian can carry a multi-faceted personality so easily and very well. ;D

Ugh, another slap to the face from this movie... their facebook page just updated their cover with the release of the DVD... the release which won't come here...
I know I can order it from Ebay or somewhere like that, perhaps, if they even ship to this stupid country... but I can't afford the shipment
But I hope that you, Bunnie will watch this movie once more for me!
EDIT: LMAO!! I just realized you can actually get the soundtrack here... why the heck sell a soundtrack to a movie that you don't have??

Hey Phantom Lady, I know a website that ships all around the world and still doesn't charge the shipment Red Lights being brand new (and not even out yet), it's still pretty expensive... I'd recommend waiting a few days. But still, if you find anything that's interesting: www.play.com. I can't afford shipment either, sometimes they are twice the price of the stuff you wanted to buy! Bunnie I can't wait to read that review of yours

I got my copy from The Hut. Shipping was free too. I had a discount so it was not that expensive. Play.com is awesome, I buy most of my DVDs from that website. If you wait a while the price will go down.

Thank you so, so much Jinx! I know exactly what I will buy as soon as I get my money next month! I usually order my stuff from a Swedish site called CDON.dk they sell stuff really cheap, cheap for me at least... but they only sell stuff that is released here and lately a lot of movies have passed us by, even if they were announced to be released here...
Yay! I can't wait to get this, I had given up completely on this to be honest...
Bunnie, I can't wait to hear your review!

I thought it was a done deal; everybody was mixed about it...i I thought that I would be too. I went into this movie with absolutely no expectations and no idea what to expect at all. And I think that's what helped me with this movie, and why I found it so enjoying The cast is amazing, aside from Robert DeNiro; sorry but...he just didn't do anything for me. I liked the mother/son type-relationship between Margaret and Tom, and the life it brought to the story along with the rhythm of the story line. The 'romance' between Sally and Tom was rather bland and it could have just been written out entirely, and I'm not sure if I'm saying that because it's true or I have crushes on both the actors and want them all to myself The ending was...different...if not surprising. It did come out of nowhere, but...it kind of reminded me of The Sixth Sense *not to spoil anything*...I DID have to sleep on it to fully understand what the hell just happened. All around, it was an entertaining and fun movie, the ending does put the movie at a stand-still, but I'm not going to hold it against the film. The director had the chance to improve it, but he didn't--so it should be him that gets the fault/blame, not the film 3.5/5
